07 Civic gas pedal feel ???

I have a new 07 EX (3k miles)

I noticed that the pedal has a weird feel to it.

If you lightly push in the pedal like the first 1/8th inch of travel doesn't do anything. I might as well not have my foot on the pedal at all. Also it sometimes feels like the throttle is catching up with where the gas pedal is and jerks lightly occasionally. Lastly when I am cruising and then I give it more gas if feels like the car shifts into a lower gear, but it is nothing drastic, just a light nudge but I feel it. (my tranny is a manual)

So any ideas on this? Can the pedal be adjusted? Is the nudge I feel VTEC coming on earlier than it did on previous year civics? What about the pedal feeling like it is slow to respond?

I love this car, but the pedal drives me nuts sometimes.

This is probably the delay in throttle response. Many of us think this is the DBW (Drive-By-Wire) system. This was also a problem on the early Scion tC's, and they fixed it in the later years, i know this because i was on the scion forums for awhile, they were complaining about lagging throttle also. The members that bought 06-07's didn't have the same problem.

I called the dealer and they said I could stop in and a tech would take a brief look at it for me to make sure everything is cool.

I hope they make a fix for this then if toyota was able to remedy this. Drive by wire is nothing new anymore.

Yeah, DBW sucks. I feel it to, it's really jerky in first gear at low speeds (if not clutching it)

What about when you a just resting your foot on the pedal just trying to give it a little throttle while cruising... my doesn't even acknowledge my foot is there.

The jerk you feel is your Vtec kicking in. The cams inside the engine are changing to give you more kick.

That was my next question...

When does vtec engage on the R18?

It is my understanding from reading the brochure that only the SI has i-vtec us other civics just have vtec.

We have i-vtec, but it "kicks in" technically at 3500rpms.

Actually for the R18's ivtec stops at 3500rpms. Anything north of 3500rpms is regular throttle. The transition is smooth so you won't feel a "kick." Remember that our "vtec" works the opposite of performance models.

I'm getting a kick at low rpm's and mine is an automatic. Shit's annoying and makes me think I'm doing something wrong. I think I'll have them check it out when I take it in this weekend.

When I test drove the automatic...I was wondering what that feeling was when I pressed on the gas pedal. Then I test drove the manual...and didn't feel it at all...if any. To me...it felt like something was wrong with the car. I got the manual and I'm happy about it.

what the HECK! Why so low? I mean I guess that is nice but it will be kicking in when I might not necessarily want it or truly need it.

ok so what is the difference between VTEC and i-VTEC?

VTEC is set at a given point, i.e. certain rpm, but i-VTEC has a "window" depending on multiple variables. This means it kicks in based on driving conditions and driver input. And we are technically on a fuel economy cam profile before 3500 rpm, and a "normal" (read, not "high performance") cam profile after 3500 rpm.

Well there lies a problem... we need a cam that transitions to a high performance position at a higher rpm.

but really... it seems to transition into vtec so easily. I don't even need to be on the throttle that much. I guess I am just used to how my GSR and S2000 used to be with VTEC.

Hopefully with a programmable ECU and an aftermarket camshaft, we can make some REAL power....

He's trying to say that our i-VTEC is fuel economy driven, not performance driven.

But we are still going from a mild lobe to a more aggressive one on the shaft right? Otherwise it wouldn't make any sense.
