Brake issues

I've searched and couldn't find an answer, so I thought I'd post...so please don't be an ass and tell me to search thanks!

Ok, so my car has about 10k and for the past month it's been squeaking like crazy. It starts when I reach around 25 mph and it's whether I'm stopping a mile before the light or a few feet before. It's really embarrasing to be in a new civic and have everyone stare at me NOT because she's sexy, but because she's sounds like shit!
I thought maybe it was just dust, dirt. After I washed it the sound was gone, but next day it was just as loud. WTH?
If anyone else has had this problem, how did you fix it?

Need new brake pads maybe. You ever do any hard stops from a high speed? If so... you might have warped your rotors as well.

well, I was just at the dealer because it sounded like there was a rock in my wheel that wouldn't go away. It turned out to be a rock in my rotor. I'm sure if the brakes or rotor were bad they would have told me? It was on the drivers side, but the noise is coming from my passenger side. hmm

I had a small rock in one of my rear rotors and it was making noise. It gouged the hell out of the rotor too.

I replaced all 4 rotors with EBC Sport Rotors (slotted/dimpled) and EBC Greenstuff pads. I haven't had any rocks/sand get stuck in my brakes yet. This is exactly what I was hoping for from the slotted rotors. Every revolution, the pad gets "wiped" 3 times, and the slot goes all the way to the edge, so the crap has a way out.

Now if I could just get rid of the "helicopter" sound. Though it's kind of growing on me now-especially when you brake hard!

I had the rock in my rotor too, but the brake noise was way before that

could be time to change the pads...usually starts to sound that way when the rivets from the pads start rubbing on the rotors..

brake wear is all dependent on the way you drive..if you brake hard, they are going to wear out a lot faster...not saying you do this...I do occasionally. But it could also be debris that wedged between the dust shield and the rotor..they aren't going to take off the hub and brake rotor to check that...happened to me once...drove me nuts...or it could be the dust shield alignment, might be rubbing

Is it your rear brakes? Do you baby them or use them hard?

The pad/rotor may have glazed over. This will cause a squeaking/scratching sound as you apply light pressure coming to a stop.

Does it go away when you brake hard?

I completely overlooked that. Navi has a good point. resurfacing the rotor and getting new pads might be the easiest way to get rid of the sound..but may not be the cheapest
