engine coolant question...

i just took off my bumper (with the help of Kurt) to get my headlights off to ship to get my retrofits done . I noticed that my coolant was low...i currently have 32k miles on my baby and i was thinking whether its time to change my coolant for my car. Since my coolant was low, i topped it off with Prestone 50/50 coolant. Do you guys think its time to change my coolant? Since im thinking of changing it, should i replace it with OEM Honda coolant Type2 or Prestone 50/50 Extended Life Coolant?

my coolant was low only 5-6 months after i got the car. i just added the
Honda genuine 50/50 mix. since then, the level have not dropped.

I wouldn't worry too much about changing it. This import specialist mechanic (see links below) recommends 30k coolant changes, but I think its a little overkill. But since it's pretty inexpensive so I suppose why not? I would go with honda coolant even though im pretty sure you would never notice the difference with prestone.

Honda recommends changing the coolant every 100,000 miles. I think that's too generous... 60-80k seems safer. But they spec such a huge interval because of Honda's Type-2 Long-Life coolant. Adding Prestone 50/50 may have diluted it a bit.

My opinion is that you can wait until 60,000 miles to change it with no harm done. Just make sure you use Honda's Type-2 from now on.

Honda Canada states on any 01 and newer of it's vehicle the coolant is good for 192,000km's or 120 Months, whichever comes first and then to relpace it every 96,000km after that or every 60 months.

So, I would suggest leaving it how it is for now, or replacing it with the genuine Honda fluid and then leaving it.

Cheers

You do know you have to check the coolant level when the engine is cold, right?
