New Car K20z3 Engine Sounds

Just need some clarification on some of the noise emitting from the new car. Reason why I ask is that it's somewhat loud compared to previous cars I've had (00 Celica GT/00 Celica GT-S).

Inside the car with no radio, there is a faint engine running sound. Sounds kind of like 'tic tic tic tic tic' in a moderately fast tempo.

With the hood open, it's naturally louder, mostly coming from the head. Coming nearer to the OEM air intake, there's a "psssshhhhhhhh" sound in addition to the 'tics'. Pretty much, it sounds like a very soft cold air intake which I assume is natural.

Sorry for the awkward question, first Honda and first new car for me. The other cars I've had were used, and I figured it was normal lol. Car has about 250 miles on it, not quite broken-in yet, 2007 edition. Let me know if this is normal for everyone else, or abnormal...thanks. :)

Supposedly? Lol, I guess someone asked Honda and that's what their claim on the noise is? Haha.

Thanks for the answer though. :)

Fuel injectors ticking and the intake sucking in air...It's normal. Do some mods and the sound will get louder in whatever areas are upgraded.

Thanks, yeah I'm use to that fact by now...xD Last car was a boosted '00 Celica GT-S with approx. 20k worth of mods. When I had an exhaust leak, that thing was loud as an 18-wheeler, lol.

Thanks! :) Was interested in the Tafetta White as well, but ended up choosing Fiji Blue Pearl.

FBP ftw

That tic sound reminds of an old movie reel.

It sounds like a quiet diesel to me.

At first I was thinking: "Is it dieseling or is it me?" I don't like it though. Sounds weak.

just do me a favor and check your oil level. They burn a lot in the first couple thousand, and the tic could be the result of the timing chain tensioner not getting enough oil to keep the chain taught. Sounds nuts, but it happened to me

Actually I think I am burning a lot of oil. I think I am at the minimum but the sounds I am hearing have been the same since day 1.

It could also be a sound from your purge control valve, they are noisy buggers.

Lol. Cooked engine at 200 miles, yay! Lolx.

Haha, nah. It was one thing that got started that kind of got overboard. After some small stuff, it escalated into a turbo kit (Stafford Fabrications), which then created a hunger for boost which led to having the engine rebuilt with 8.8:1 compression pistons, iron sleeves, etc. which led to traction issues which was helped with a Quaife Helical LSD, then the piggyback ECU was getting annoying so I had to replace it with an APEX'i PowerFC (standalone engine management FTW). Then misc. things like Tokico shocks/struts/Eibach Springs, HID's (didn't get a chance to retro), Hypermotive 3 Pt Rear Strut Bar, Hotchkis Sway Bars (Front/Rear), Greddy Profec B-Spec2 Boost Controller, HKS Super Sequential Blow off Values and random other junk stuff that I didn't really need but wasted money on anyways. In the end though, the turbo maintenance and problems associated with it became too much of a hassle to deal with. That's probably due to that fact that it was my daily driver as well (waiting 10-15 minutes for the oil pressure at start up or waiting for the oil to cool down from driving was hell). Fun car, but definitely not something I'm interested in after that experience unless it's a weekend driver lol. For now, I'm interested in NA or S/C for daily drivability.

Oh, BTW, no need for swampland. In the South (Mississippi/Louisiana/Alabama area), I think there's plenty of that for the taking...lol
