30,000 maintence is it worth it?

I've got 33,000 miles on my 06 si. I called to schedule an oil change at the dealership. The services guy was over the top and would not schedule anything unless i did my "30,000 major maintence" "it's important to keep your car up and running" bblah blah ..

$229 for an oil change, replace cabin filter, air filter, adjust valves, check alignmnet (extra for adjustment?), check brakes, check belts, battery, rotate tires etc etc.

I rotated my own tires already, I just cleaned my AEM CAI. on the list they only thing that might be necessary is a engine valve adjustment...but even then my car still idles as smooth as day 1.

I take the car in Tuesday. the more I think about it the more I think I am going to only get an oil change and save $150
thoughts???? anyone???

Also the front right strut is popping and clicking like crazy so they will fix that and some airbag recall.

I think the only thing I would have them do is adjust the valves. The rest you can pretty much do yourself.

Is adjusting the valves recommended every 30,000 miles or just when needed?

here is what edmunds says is done at 30k checkup...too many "inspects" and not enough "replace"

Valve adjustments are usually checked and adjusted if necessary at approx the 100k kilometre mark. As for the checkup, if your warranty is up in 3k, I would suggest getting it done, those checks can be very beneficial, when they do their "inspections" they check all the ball joints for any kind abnormal play, tie rods everything suspension wise. I have seen so many times where there is a loose part or something that is just starting to show wear and would not be noticable on normal driving. So I mean it's a toss up, you could bring it in and they could find something that is covered, in which case it could be well worth the money. Use your disgression......

As for voiding your warranty, not doing it at a Honda dealership will not void your warranty. Certain items can be not covered due to lack of service, ie any premature break wear. If you go through rotors and pads in 45k, and have never had them serviced the dealer will do nothing for you. If you have stuck to your servicing we have covered brake work plenty of times because the customer is following service, but the dealer cannot deny an engine job to you if you decided to just do an oil change rather then the bigger service.

Cheers.

Yeah they give you a list of 30 things that needs to be done or checked. Do they actualy do all the stuff they claim needs to be checked?

That greatly depends on the integrity of the dealership. With the ones around town, I'll pass on them verifying my safety!

Yeah, it states in your manual that the warranty can't be void if you state the exact time, date, mileage and receipts. I understand it's more of a hassle than anything, but what your dealership is telling you is false.

Your entire warranty is not actually gonna be up. The "bumper to bumper" warranty is 3 years 36k miles. The powertrain warranty is longer - 5 years i believe.

try an independent honda shop for your services. you'll save money and wont have to deal with mr "you-must-get-this-service-done"

i wouldn't be too worried about the valves unless you like to redline frequently. but then again - correct valve specs are one of the most critical aspects you can maintain. I think 60k miles is a good general interval. (i've asked numerous honda specialists/dealers about this.)

and the checking basically makes sure they arent any failing parts - really anything can go wrong no matter how new a car is. and its generally better to catch a problem sooner than later.

happy motoring.

I spent $1600 on the 8-year/120K bumper-to-bumper, so I'm not taking any chances.

There is no such thing as an 8 year 120k bumper to bumper...

There is an extended warranty aka Honda Plus or Comprehensive....which does cover a lot of components, but its no where near bumper to bumper....things like stereos are not covered, any trim pieces, seats....anythign cosmetic is not covered by the extended warranty. Dampers are not covered, coils are.

Don't get me wrong the extended is great and I have the same thing and wouldnt get the vehicle without it....coveres LOTS of stuff and every big ticket item for a long time. Just dont call it a bumper to bumper...cause you will be very disapointed when you go to the dealer and say I have 8 years bumper to bumper and they say no you dont. Just getting ya ready....
