I wrote a post awhile back about the shop that installed my SS and bushings had screwed something up because the shifter cable boot (i think thats what its called) was not attached when they completed the job and the shifting felt a little weird.
I brought it back to the shop and they said all that was was a "dust cover" and it really wasnt necessary for it to be re-attached, but to make to happy they put a hose clamp around it to keep it in place. Well yesterday when I was driving from West Palm to Tampa the shifter started to feel very loose and slushy. When I got to Tampa I opened the hood and found that the the end of the boot they had put the clamp on ripped off from the rubber. Needless to say this needs to be fixed because I can tell a HUGE difference with that "dust boot" being off. I posted 2 pictures of what it looks like. Could someone pls tell me what the name of that part is that needs to be replaced so I can order one from HondaPartsDeals and get it fixed? Also would you guys happen to know how difficult it would be to replace? Sorry for the long post and thanks for the help. Last edited by SPORT injected; 10-30-2007 at 02:06 PM. |

why would they even need to touch that to install the bushings?
when i installed my cable bushings i never looked twice at those. i would call the shop and have them pay for a tow to the nearest honda dealer

for the first fella, i hope all worked out
i'll admit, my bushings (corsport, not happy with the manufacture of that product), in wrestling it to get in, same thing, it came out, however, a stern push in, and it pops back into place, just make sure its pushed in tight, there is a ring 'clamp' that should provide enough pinch to keep it in, otherwise, i'd carefully take some needle nosed pliers nad apply pressure to make it tighter let me know how it goes, as said, mine's in good shape now, but overall not impressed with the product, or the design of that part of our transmission |

what did u use to fix it?i thionk at this point mine is unfixable, the flex in the cable when going to gears 2,4,6 and especially reverse is uncurable and the whole thing needs to be replaced
ive tried zip ties, clamps. contact cement everything works temporarily, but then it gives out right now its working so-so with contact cement however its gonna poploose any second, i have to baby the transmission, on top of that, reverse is still very hard to get in what soplution did u use |

i'm not condoning this, as it may not work, but maybe try putting some lube (a very small amount) on the wire where the grommit is, so that it'll slide smoother when you pop it back in (and tighten the clamp), so then there'll be no pressure on the grommit to be pushed back out as for buying this product, i wouldn't buy it again, i don't think its a precision item at all, i appreciate that its got to be tight, but it down right was not built right, i tried for hours to line it up, etc, all the time, same thing happened... plus, i'm no rookie with cars, or engineering items, and i'd say it just wasn't a quality piece, so no, in hindsight, i could never advise this product - but just from my experience |

is it the plastic piece that got disconnected to the rubber piece? and on the inside the shifter cable? mine broke off too when i was installing it.. gears 2,4,6 and reverse were all loose and engaged late. what i did was put super glue inside the rubber tube and on the plastic piece and pushed it in tight. then i kept applying super glue over it just in case it gets loose after about 3 minutes of drying.. hasn't disconnecetd again yet.. but it's only been a week so i'll see what happens
