got keyed...
Last night was the first time i ever parked my car outside and i got keyed but i was not the only one, friends car also got keyed it was a Acura Tl- type S in front of me and a BMW 3 series behind that also got keyed. Funny thing was that we were all brand new cars. We called the police even though i knew they could do nothing. Luckly i was only keyed on my right passanger door and when i went to my dealer, they said warrent does not cover this and it would cost $1200 to fix it because they have to take off the whole paint and do it all over. I told them to get the **** off and then i went to my friends body shop and they told me $435. Is $435 a reasonable price? Also since this is keyed, will this part ger rusted? is there anything i can do to prevent the rust? Im also kind of low on cash so i was thinking about just buying a 20inch Decal to cover it up. With a decal would that prevent rust? Thank you guys i really need your help.

If the decal sealed it, I'm sure it would prevent the metal from reacting with the oxygen and oxidizing (rusting).
However, a 20 inch decal is going to look ridiculous, I would rather see a horribly-done touch up job than a huge decal. $435 also seems rather high to fix a key mark. |

remember to resize to message board! I would spend the 400+ instead of a big sticker... |

Decals are just bad. They trap moisture under themselves if not applied properly by someone with training applying vinyl to a car. If the key mark has gone down to the metal, it will rust if not tended to quickly. Just get it repainted. The dealership is expensive but they will probably do the best and almost original job. If you want to cut money try the other shop, but first look at what they've done to other cars. You get what you pay for.
Now go find the little cretin that keyed your car and kick his a$$.

If you are planing on repainting the door ,don't do it right away ,wait a few weeks or a couple of months.
A few years ago the same thing happened to me ,my driver's side got keyed but since I loved the car so much I went ahead and had it properly repaired but the SOB who did it the first time keyed the other side !!! You could imagine how I felt, couldn't believe my car would get keyed twice in 10 days. So I think you should just use a touch up paint and fix it yourself ,then wait a few weeks, until you can afford to have it done professionally. |

doesnt ur insurance cover this ? if u get it painted it wont rust.. if u put a decal its gona look *** and it will rust cuz water will find its way behind the decal eventualy and will sit behind it and get into the crack and yea ur gona make it worse... |
