Dealership bsed me what should I do?

On my last oil change I asked the Honda dealership (Drum Honda) to check and see if the Tranny was overfilled. They told me they checked it and everything was tip top. Well today I switched to Amsoil MTF. And obviously my tranny was overfilled.

Here is my question how can I call them out on it. But now they know I put an oil other than Honda MTF in it. The border line between what is under warrenty and what isent has seemed kinda iffy on the oil subject to me.

Any info would be great. Thanks

I doubt anything could come of it.

They probably didn't even check it, but you can't prove they didn't, and they can't likely prove that they did.

You don't have to tell them you put a new fluid in your trans. Just tell them you were double checking their work and saw they didn't do what they said they did. Who knows maybe you can get a free oil change out of it...

It's not a big deal, don't worry too much on it. Nothing good can come out of it except for an awkward moment. There are far worse things mechanics have done. Most civics MTF are overfilled, not a big deal.

Yeah it's not as bad as a time I found a torque wrench under my hood after I got the thing home but still they shouldn't tell me they checked something and everything was ok when they never even looked at it at all.

I talked to the service guy and he said they probably just over looked it and gave me an apology. So that was cool. Problem solved.

Nice, you got a new torque wrench out of it.

Same exact thing happend to me, last week took my car to the dealership, complained about the clunky shifting and the fact that I grinded 2nd over the weekend with the clutch pedal to the floor. They said that they "compared it to another one just like it" and the transmissions drove the same, and there was nothing wrong. They also explicitly told me not to change the transmission fluid, although they didn't go so far as to say that doing so would void the warranty.

I switched to Amsoil MTF today, even though I never had the severe problems that many of the '06 guys do ('07 Si Sedan built a couple months ago) but the shifting feels slightly better nonetheless, although it still isn't 100% smooth. Downshifting to 2nd and 1st feels much better and that is definitely an improvement. Sometimes at low speeds in my car (taking a sharp turn), the shifter would just not want to go into 2nd and especially 1st.

The dealership can't void your warranty for changing to Amsoil, although that doesn't mean they won't try. Personally, I'm not planning on ever going back to the dealership unless something breaks. With the new 5 year/60k powertrain warranty it's harder to just say "screw it" with the warranty, but I think I'm at that point anyways. If the bad/overfilled Honda MTF was causing abuse to the transmission, it would probably take at least 60k for the transmission to get trashed to the point where most dealerships would agree to work on it under warranty. And even if something major happened like a synchro tore up, you'd most likely get blamed for abusive driving and have a big fight on your hands. And good luck taking it to another dealership once the one you bought it from turned you down. It would actually probably be a better idea to take it to another dealership first. Honda has always been much more stingy on warranty work; of course they've never done as much as a lot of manufacturers since they generally sell a superior product, but also typical Honda warranties used to be 3/36k as well. 36k isn't enough for anything to break that isn't an obvious manufacturing or assembly defect.

I'm leaving the Amsoil in, changing my motor oil to Mobile 1 at 5k miles and forgetting about the warranty. I think the only hope as far as the transmissions go at this point is a full out recall from Honda. I can't complain too much though, I figure it's just part of the price. $21k pricetag for the Si Sedan in 2007 (the friggin EM Si coupe was nearly 20k in '99 - 8 years ago, didn't even have ABS or all the airbags and LSD and DBW, etc) that pretty much means serious corner cutting in a lot of places, so we as consumers will have to be more vigilant and put up with some quality issues.
