Tire rotation?

How long will it take to rotate my tires with just one jack and a spare? I wanted to rotate my tires myself to save a good $50, and I was wondering if I can just do it by switching around the spare to the tire im taking off and putting on and just moving the jack around. Also, would it be fine just to tighten one lug nut everytime I put the spare on? Just very temporarily (couple of minutes) ?

Thanks

youll want to get tires balance checked if its being rotated. i take it your still on your first set of tires because i think like 80%+ of tire shops give free lifetime rotation.

how do I go about getting a balance check? Is it too much hassle so I should just take it to a shop?

I think if you want to save time, buy a hydraulic jack /jack stands (40-100$), and lift up the front of the car, prop it on jack stands, lift up the rear, swap tires, repeat on other side . Torque wheel to 80ft lbs, and recheck torque after a few heat cycles.

Chances are you will end up having to use the hydraulic jack and stands somewhere down the line for CAI install or exhaust work.

To balance tires, you will need the machine described above. Make friends with your Local tire shop representative and they may do it for free.

If you bought from Discount Tires (I'm not a paid spokesperson), you get free balance and rotation for the life of the tires. When my first tires on my Si go out next year (50,000 km), I'm definitely going there because I've had many a great experiences with that company. Just my two cents.

How many miles do you have on the car, Walter? I replaced my original tires at 12,000 miles because they were bald!! I would just take it to discount man, or do what me and my RSX owning friends did (couldn't bring that many cars to the dealership) - get together and use 2 jacks, and 2 people taking off/putting on lugs. One jack and a spare will take you forever!

You don't need to balance your tires everytime you rotate

I have had all my rotations done at the dealership just for the fact that if something goes wrong its on them, im still on stock rollers though.

I have about 15k still on original shitty all seasons. My fronts are alot more worn than my rears. So you're saying I should be fine to rotate them by myself? And yeah, I know one jack/one spare will take forever, but im willing to do it as long as i can just keep one lug nut on the spare everytime I change the tire. Will that be fine?

Honestly, just by some jacks... they're really not that expensive and you will use them again in the future, guaranteed

The manual said:
balance every time you put new tires.

if you want to save time and money get extra jacks and lift the car at once and do the rot.

sorry, i'm allways late.
did not read dates and last threads.

I think it's every 6000 miles, or 6k*1.6 = 9600km is the recommendation

i do it every other oil change. i never get my wheel balance or aligned though, there shouldn't be a reason why the car is not aligned.
