I personally think that no car is safe. Accidents can occur in millions of different ways. I personally think luck has better value than safety when it comes to car crashes. Some people die at speeds 20 MPH. Others, for example, the one they usually show on "America's wild car chases"- a Corvette crashes into a 18 wheeler at 100 MPH and completely falls apart and the guy walks out. It's just plain simple luck.

Well, I got insurance numbers back today on my ride.....we paid 16.1K for it....insurance valued it at 19K. I won't be in a new civic though.

How did they value the car at 19k when you only paid 16? Did they think your car was an Si instead of an EX?

A bit off topic but I'm always good for talking about movies and such. If you remember, Phoebe Cates played in both Gremlins movies, apart from Ridgemont High. She did plenty of crappy movies in between those times, not to say those movies were of "high caliber". Her last movie was in 2001, the Anniversary Party. I never heard of it or watched it.

But her "less than perfect" career can all be saved by the one scene in Ridgemont High. You know, the pool scene!!

Not wanting to get off topic, go here for more... http://imdb.com/name/nm0000121/

It looks like you had an Si.

I had a 06 si with 15,000 miles on it. Unfortunately it was totaled and valued at $21,000 as well.

Sorry for the math, in advance.

They valued it at 24k+, then subtracted 48.5 cents/mile X 7991 miles for $3,876.....which comes to around 20,124 using my estimates. They added more to this (i dont have it in front of me) but it came to 21,1XX. I owed less so they will give me the difference. They got the 48.5 cents a mile from a .gov address, sorry i dont remember which one. They adjusted it based on mileage and not standard depreciation which includes other factors. I feel like i'm getting the shaft. They take me for a sucker, they have the wrong dude.

Actually, it was an LX

He had EX alloys on his ride though... Which probably made insurance think it was an EX? Doesn't make sense either way, lol.

It's not how much you paid for the car...it's how much the car is worth (resale value wise). This is one of the reasons we went with Honda, was because of the resale value. The Civics are selling like hotcakes and they are worth alot of money. This is just the figure they came up with, they don't ask what you paid.
