Ominous8204...alot of people have said bad things about the safety of this car but how do YOU feel about it? It really looks like you took a hard hit so I was just wondering what your opinion was.

Whoever said that is an idiot.. So far I've heard of one guy crossing a highway median and getting a head-on colllision, this guy smoking a tree, another guy flipping his car over on the highway, another hitting a house at 90+, one guy getting sandwitched between two larger cars, and tons of other shit. Outcome? Two fatalities (same accident). I'm liking the odds.

Dang, that's a good...I'd say great question. Wow, it's really hard to say. Well, I can't say I feel safe from a side impact. Yet...The car was built for an impact from a car...meaning a wider impact area....not a tree. I feel as though there is no way a passenger would have survived this accident (assuming it still would have happened with them in the car)....and I feel that if the car had not spun around, I wouldn't be here to tell the tale. Though the side impact bags did deploy on the passenger side, it wouldn't have helped, I don't believe. The only thing that might have saved a passenger, would be if they were not wearing a seatbelt. As from a comfort view of the wreck, kinda weird saying that, but from a comfort view, I am completely satisfied with the turn out. The seatbelt left no mark on me and I believe I was thrown against the passenger seat, which provided a cusion. Also, the design of the hugging seat could have played a roll in keeping me in one spot. The roof is also a little conserning, seeing how it had no problem crumpling. Though test, and accidents, have shown that the car does well in rollovers, I don't think it would have done well if I rolled into the tree. Looking at the engine aspect, I believe I'd feel comfortable in a front impact, seeing that the engine mount snapped, even though the impact was on the side. The engine seemed to angle downward, and I think that it would have dropped out...as designed. The tires that are on the car, I feel, are reliable. Sliding sideways, hitting a tree, and not popping a tire (even though 1 seems to have a nice gash)...I feel as though the tires do well.

I think knowing the speed I was going might add confidence in the vehicle, assuming I was going excessively fast...but I don't want to know, in all honesty.

If there is any aspect that I left out, please let me know and I'll try to give you my best opinion on that point.

I think he was referring to the people that said bad things about the safety of the car not me or you.

Thanks for the great answer dude. I would say you were doing atleast 60 and possibly more to do that kind of damage. Then again like you said its designed more for car to car wrecks not car to tree ones. Just one of those freak things and hit it just right to make it crumble like that. Hope you stay with the h onda family though.

Wow--sorry to see that happen--I see the side curtain airbag deployed but did the side airbags in the seats deploy as well---just wondering cuz I see you have seat covers--Also, as for the "durability" or how well the veh held up, going at 50mph or more and hitting a tree it would be tough for any veh to fair much better.
Glad your okay!

Side air bag from the seat did not deploy...but not because of the seat cover...the seat cover had rip areas for the airbags.

still seems the side airbags should have deployed....I had seen those seat covers but was hesitant, thinking they may not let the airbag deploy if the slits were not lined up exactly where the side bags would come out.

Hey Chris, forgot to ask yesterday, do you have pics of the tree? Or what's left.

Why should they deploy if no one was sitting in the seat? You do realize there are seat sensors.
