Glad you're ok homie! I don't see whay you would get flamed? This is an honest mistake. The only people that get flamed here (and they should) are the tools that drive drunk or are racing...

So, another Civic or?

I'm not going to flame but you could ask the question....how is this any different than being drunk and driving? He could have killed someone and damn lucky he didn't. Would you say that it was a lesser evil if someone was killed by falling a sleep at the wheel rather than killing someone via DUI? If you are drowsy you shouldn't operate any machinery of any kind. I view drunk driving, driving while on a cell phone, eating while driving, drowsy driving etc, all the same when it comes to an accident. It doesn't matter what is going on, if it's a distraction, well that could kill someone.

Thank the Lord that you didn't kill anyone and good luck.

I was only a matter of time. If you look @ it that way anything you do while operating a vehicle and kill someone it is considered vehicular homicide. Just be glad he is ok.

....Don't look out the side windows to check blindspots to change lanes, don't touch the radio/CDs, don't check your side mirrors either as you'll take your eyes off the road in front of you for a split second, don't talk to your passenger or kids in the back seat, don't look down to check your speedometer, don't look at the girl in the car next to you, when coming to an intersection, don't check the cross traffic to ensure they are not entering the intersection to hit you....
........give me a break. If you are on the road, you are constantly distracted. Hell, today while in my apt community, a truck turned right in front of me while I was driving my red Ridgeline. I guess she didn't see a red truck in complete sunny daylight.... she must have been distracted too.

keep your head up. I know you've got to be in the dumps over this, but all things happen for a reason. Like others have said, at least it was a tree, not another car/person. The car can always be replace by something else. Sorry to hear about the car though. What was the speed limit on the road you were on. Like was this a residential road... 35, or where you out like on a 55mph road. Just trying to get an idea of what speeds you were maybe going. I know you said it was on a downward hill.

Oh wow. Most important is that your ok, the car can be replaced. Luckly there was noone in your passenger side. If there were, that person would of for sure have some damage done to them.

i've been in a similar situation whilst driving home from an afterparty at 6am. on the 1 hour drive home, i had 2 brief microsleeps (what they call it here in oz) and didn't think much of it. then when i woke up from my third i found i was doing 50mph straight towards a pole :O thankfully i swerved to miss it without incident, pulled over and got some sleep.

microsleeps are very real and very dangerous... i've learnt my lesson, and am sorry you had to learn yours the hard way. thank god you weren't carrying a passenger though!
