Similar almost happened to me (in my work van though
). I work on emergency generators and I was called out to work at 11:45 PM the other night. On my way home at 4:30 AM I experienced a "micro-sleep" and when I came out of it I was next to a semi on the highway and was drifting towards it (maybe six inches away and going 65mph ). Was scared awake for the rest of the trip. I would have pulled over and slept, but was only a couple of minutes away from home at that point and my bed was calling me loudly. This kind of thing can happen so quickly, even before you realize how tired you are. In my situation it would have involved someone else, which scared me more than if I had just been close to rolling my van into a ditch or tree. Hopefully I will learn from both our mistakes and just sleep in my van before even driving at all.Oh yeah, glad you are ok. And the new tails look so much better. |

I actually know exactly how you probably felt during the whole thing. I was lucky (really REALLLYYYY lucky) by about three feet. I was coming of the interstate into an old cloverleaf in the rain (yeah, already sounding stupid) and missed a shift. The back end started drifting and i, like you, overcompensated. I, of course, did two full 360's across the road and slid off, ending up about three feet from a high-rise light pole. Its the most bizarre thing when you're out of control. I don't know what, if anything went through your mind. Mine was full of "Oh, shit!" and then, calm. It might be because i have been, in the past, slightly emotionally unstable (if you get my drift). I wasn't that night but all that came back and i just kinda sat there with my hands on the wheel and the smell of wet grass coming through the air ducts. When Grace (that's my car's name) finally stopped in the grass, i unlocked the door and kinda stumbled out. Of course, this group of rubberneckers in an Expedition (yes, they were, b/c they didn't even ask if i was okay) crossed the median from the part of the cloverleaf going the other direction and slowed down to gawk and see if i was dead or drunk or both. But i got my balance back and kinda walked around to make sure there wasn't any permanent "evidence" (this was last year and my parents still don't know it ever happened). The whole car was covered with dirt and grass so i snuck over to my aunts house (she knows) and borrowed her hose and that was the end of it. But ever since then, i do not engine-brake in the rain.
