Brakes!

Hello,
I hear a weird noise from under the car. It happens usually when I try to stop at stop signs or red light. While I am pressing the brake pedal, if I go over bumps and uneven surfaces, I hear a wierd noise from under the car. It is like ABS noise[like something is moving really fast under the car!]. I am not sure if it is ABS. This is happening on dry roads and I am not sliding at all. What do you think this is? Could it be something serious?

Thanks,
Amir

It really sounds like ABS. I have this sewer that I run over everytime I go by my house and my brake pedal flops around and engages the ABS. Any sort of stopping on gravel would do the same thing. I'd suggest you take it to a back road and test it out, but I'm willing to bet it's ABS.

First of all, I do not know why it has to engage at all. I am not sliding or anything. I think I do not see any relation between going over uneven surfaces and ABS.

Second, assuming it is the ABS. Is there any solution to fix this? Is this a common problem?

Thanks,
Amir

it makes sense the ABS is engaging, if the tire is in the air there is no traction, and ABS engages to keep it from stoping

solution, stiffer suspension and better tires may help I guess, but probably won't, there's really not much you can do, besides, its not like its a problem, ABS is there to help the car stop faster while maintaining control in real world conditions.

Exactly. When it's going over uneven surfaces the tire is momentarily not going to have any traction because it's not fully planted.
