My tranny was about 1 pint overfilled. I noticed this when I changed to AMSOIL MTF. Could that be the primary cause of the 3rd gear problems? Might explain why everyone doesn't have this problem (some are not overfilled). Who else has had an overfilled tranny and how much? Has anyone had this problem and your tranny was NOT overfilled? Thoughts?

My tranny was overfilled as well. Unfortunately it would seem this is common.

Though my overall shift quality improved with Amsoil, the overfill didn't seem to cause problems. Though it should be noted the car wasn't even a month old when I swapped fluid.

If the grinding/popping is an issue that develops over time, either I nipped it in the butt early by swapping Amsoil, or they haven't reared their ugly head for me yet. Hopefully the former.

Right now my tranny is wonderful.

Bump

Can the mods clean up the polls. I was gonna make it so everything was listed in the poll itself but it wouldnt' fit so i half assed into the topic and it looks like crap, lol, i was really tired when i made this thread.

Like take out just the "on more than 1 occasion w/ normal driving, regardless of temps" from the poll if you could, thanks.

I had the grinding issue as well as popping out of third gear. Switched to GM synchromesh and it has been perfect ever since!

Regarding that Honda Bullitin, neither Honda of America or the dealerships I called would validate that as a source.

"If it doesn't have a TSB, we're not doing it under warrenty" was what one dealership said.

I know. I'm just saying don't be surprised if your Honda dealer questions how "real" the Bullitin is.

I got into a screaming match with the GED-lacking a-hole at Burnsville Honda who refused to even listen to what the bullitin said, saying it didn't matter what it says.

Although it wont let me select it, I also had an '05 RSX type-s that had the 1-2 second crunch/gring and also the grind crunch/pop out from 2-3 gear.

I have the same problems on the SI, although not as bad. I'm sure some SI owners have the prob just as bad as my acura though.

Go to another, seems like your dealer is a bunch of assholes, but like I said before it's a Honda News Bulletin, it's not a TSB or recall.

That is from there January News Bulletin and my dealer has verified it.

So far this works for me, either warming up your car (parked) or knowing you're going to vtec all gears on green, shift through all gears before.

1.5 weeks of ownership and I've noticed 1-2 to be notchy and I can feel the "crunchiness" of the third gear. I'll try to talk it out with the service department and attempt to convince them to swap out the MTF with the Amsoil I have kicking around.
