Transmission Whine.....

I have a 07 si sedan...in 3rd gear at about 29mph with light throttle input the trans whines. It does it in 6th at about 50 mph. Sometimes when I am in first it will do it loudly. I give it gas it goes away, I let off it goes away. It like a light throttle sweet spot. I'm gonna see if they will let me drive another si at work monday to see if it does the same thing....also, try this....bring your rpms up to 2500rpm and hold it there.....feel the vibration. A customer came in the other day complaining about this. We didn't have anymore si's on the lot so they asked me for my keys. Mine does it worse than his. Do it with the door open and put your hand on the door....its even worse.

Mine has the same whine. I make myself feel better and tell myself it sounds like a low-boost supercharger

Are you sure? My injectors make a clicking noise at idle, and it did that as well on my LX sedan. On my lx, it made no whine. On the SI, it whines under certain acceleration.

Yep I've had the same issue since day one. It actually sounds like my car is a bit worse, especially in 1st and 2nd gear (at low speeds). There's really no fix for gear whine, so I just imagine I'm driving a rally car. I would suggest doing the same hehe :)

The injector whining is completely normal, most all the injectors for Honda cars whine. If it is bothersome then you could always replace the oem ones with after market.

Good luck bro! The bearings are probably just fine, the whining you hear is due to the gears meshing together. Ever heard a straight cut dogbox? Same sound.... It's completely a function of the gears meshing together. Due to the variation in each gear some people have the whine worse than others. Unfortunately, there is no way to fix it. It seems that Honda's transmission NV group was slacking on this car hehe

I had this whine in 6th around 2500 rpm for a while, it went away over time, not sure why

the car also whines when accelerating, I don't know why, but it sounds like a really small S/C (at least in my mind it does)

Hehehe indeed a typical Honda "sporty car" trait! For some reason they seem to think jerky throttle response = sporty... lol

I get the whine in 2nd gear, when the car is cold. After it warms it tapers off.

i was convinced my car was messed up until i read that many other people had the same noise.

and it's actually the engine i thought, cause it makes the noise out of gear. so would it be the tranny still?

i thought it was anything from the hollowed balance shaft to the lsd to the tranny.....but whatever it is it gives me piece of mind to know you all are hearing the same thing....cause it is either supposed to be that way or a fix will be found.

p.s. my girlfriend thinks i am crazy when i say "can you hear that"...i used to do it with my accord and now with my si and i can see her eyes rolling.
