Change your tranny fluid. Mine did that from day one, and it would always downshift at any sort of incline. I changed my fluid with 5 quarts of Q premium performance ATF it drives alot smoother and almost never changes out of 5th on the highway

the clunkyness is from low pressure, foamed fluid, or burnt fluid. I drove my car 31k miles so far all highway and the fluid was brown and burnt.

Mine does the same shit, totally pisses me off. Changed oil and it didn't help. It's just one of the many, many reasons I'm unloading this onto my sister and getting an FA5 soon

I'm definitely thinking about taking it to the dealer. I just wanted to find out if this is a "problem" (meaning only a few cars do this) or if it is a "characteristic" (meaning all of the AT Civics do this).

So you had this exact some problem and changing the AT fluid fixed it?

mine does it at every rolling stop (yields) and i hate it. i just figured it is normal?

torque converter isn't releasing quickly enough is my guess. probably because the TCM expects if you have braked that much you must be stopping all the way and delays the release until you've fully stopped.

yes, but i didnt replace with the thin Honda Z1 ATF, i used a thicker WTF fluid (Q premium HP ATF) or whatever its called. Its a higher heat range and slightly denser. Valve body noise is minutely louder but torque holding and lockup/unlock frequency is greatly improved.

Is there any other fluids out there that could be used also?? They don't sell the Q premium HP ATF here in Toronto. But a couple places carry the Amsoil full synthetic ATF though.

Ahh the wonders of having an Si... no more worrying about faulty transmission in AT vehicles

Seriously though you should take it to the dealer and just have them inspect it of course.

i hate this aspect/problem that our auto transmissions have. Have you guys been in traffic, and tried keeping it between 7-8mph? it's like someone kicking you in the back constantly. I brought it into 3 different dealers, they all said they found no problem.. =(

A guy at work had that issue with his EX sedan AT.

The Honda dealer changed a belt on the engine, using a longer one, and bypassing a pulley. That solved his problem. There's a Honda TSB for this: Honda TSB 06-059.

I agree 100%.. The belt issue has nothing to do with the AT.
