Problem w/ Tein and Large wheels

I've got a problem

Tein Basics with a 17x8 +48 on 225/45/17

I can't drop in the front cause i'll get rubbing issues...even with a 3mm spacer
I have 1" of gap in the front, this is the lower I can go or else tire is rubbing on the coil... no problem with oem suspension

did someone get the same problem ?

Why did you get such a shitty offset? You have 16mm less clearance on the inside, and 10mm on the outside.

You should have bought wheels with an offset between +35 and +40.

to aftermarket springs have a larger diameter than stockers?

i've got 17x8 45mm with 235/40/17, they are fine with the stock springs but, i want to lower mine too

TEIN struts have a lower seat than oem struts (if you want to lower)
so tein seat is in interference with tire

I have +48 cause that was the only offset available for that kind of wheel in 8" width

17x8 +35 is too aggressive an offset - 40 wuold have been perfect. As I understand it, the Tein coilover bodies are significantly thicker than the OEM struts...hence the problem compared to stock.

+35 is still ok too. As you said it's a bit more aggressive, but it would still push the wheel farther out, and look damn good (see ILL's FG thread)

Yea, you should worry. That is 19mm less clearance on the inside, and it will push the wheel out 19mm as well.

So it's 38mm wider than stock. You are going to need a 10-15mm spacer, and you're not going to be able to drop it all the way without some serious rubbing.

Why did you get 8.5"?

Only size avaliable, got it from Z1, they didn't have issues on theirs and it looks fairly low.

Not as low as it COULD go. I tuck stock wheels/tires on TEIN SS so... Just FYI.

gotcha....it's not on it's lowest setting now, I'm not quite tucking. I may be able to squeeze them in there.

Thanks for the advice

COMplex is right, you guys should have done a little research before you bought or at least done some measurements.

Anyway, to the OP: Max2.0 - If you are set on the wheels you have then keep them. Ditch those silly 3mm spacers and buy some real ones. Either get yourself some extended studs and buy some sandwich spacers @ 10mm WITH hubcentric rings OR you can also buy some 15mm bolt on spacers. I haven't seen anything less than 15mm for bolt on, that way your effective offset would be +33. With an 8" wheel and a decent street alignment you will not only look good/aggressive but won't have any rubbing issues.

problem is partly solved
I bought 215 tires and I can drop it a bit more (not all the way down)
I was running 2x3mm spacers with the 225 and wasn't able to drop more than halfway the basics can. Now with 215 and 1x3mm spacer I can go to 3/4 the basics can go (enough for me)

I could go all the way down but i'll only have 1/16 between coil and tire...

as for the research I did all lot of...

But guys were running oem struts... I also tried with oem struts ands there is absolutely no problems... no spacers, no nothing, 225 tires

I thought Basics would be exactly the same....
Never assume cause you make an ass of you and me !

yes you will have a bitch of a time! i have 18x8.5 with tein ss. you will not have clearance... your wheel will rub against the strut because they are much thicker in diameter! you have to run 15mm spacers!

... in addtion, if you drop all the way down to lowest setting, then you will have to cut the black inner fender lining and cut or roll your fenders! hopes this helps.

are lowering springs larger than the stock, will we run into the same problems if we just swap springs?

No

cause you can't lower the shock seat on oem struts
so you won't have this problem by just swapping coils
