Rust... "It's not a problem"
Today when I dropped my Si off to get the driver's side seat base replaced (just the skin), I mentioned the little rust forming in the trunk lid. The rust is forming around the rubber stoppers on each side, exact same spots.
Service advisor says "It's not a problem...keep an eye on it" OH ! OK ! /sarcasm Rust is no problem. I'm only a professional detailer / semi professional autobody tech, and it's ok. It's not a problem. When it comes to small easy stuff, my dealership is willing to fix it asap for no hassles. When it comes to big problems, like my 3rd gear problem (I fixed it myself with amsoil), and now my rust; it's a big hassle. -Darryl |

Rust not a problem? It's akin to automotive cancer. I'm going to do oil changes myself or only places that use ramps instead of lifts from now on (sorry dealerships). I've had numerous cars rust up underneath because the pads on the lifts scraped the paint off (and we all know how rust resistant modern cars are nowadays with their paper thin sheetmetal). How do you normally deal with rust issues? Naval jelly, rust converter, sand/prime/paint?

Strangely, the past three cars I've owned and did work on were rust-free. I don't have much experience with rust, however, know that even surface rust is STILL OPEN-AIR OXIDATION OF METAL BEING EXPOSED!!!
Obviously our shitty paint jobs are to blame.
