Dashboard Heating up?

I drove my car for 250 miles or so cause i go to school about 3 hours away. While i was driving, i noticed as i took a cd out that it was pretty warm...almost hot. Then i felt my dashboard and it was kinda warm, but much cooler than the cd. Has anyone else noticed this? Im thinking it may be because the dash is so far forward.

That should be totally normal. If you play any stereo long enough it's gonna start to heat up b/c of the amount of electricity going through them.

yep normal I'd say. My civic and my previous car are both like this. Besides the stereo itself heating up, if u'r using heat, then it probably warm up the dash area a lil I guess.

I have this experience as well
when i took my CD out, it was so hot...
and i keep on playing it for around 2 hours

but i have read about the manual guide,
they said if the Navi. got too hot, it will shut down automatically and it will start up once it cool down!

I had to take my car to the shop twice for the center console (shifter area) heating up to much. They said some wires from my satelite radio antenna knocked the vent loose that went to the rear floor board. I don't believe that is correct b/c after the first time I didn't touch any wires to cause it to happen again.
Check how much airflow is coming out of you rear floor vents under the front seats. If there isn't enough air flow take it in, it will be covered under warranty.

I've noticed this too...mostly when the floor vent is on...the center console get's exceptionally hot. I noticed it gets almost too hot to touch as I go further towards the gas pedal.

The vent has a 90 degree angle that came loose under the gear shifter. I asked them to put screws in it and it hasn't come loose yet.

Ya... my center console is like an oven too.

I don't remember them advertising heat flow directly to the rear seats. But if that is supposed to be on my DXG candian model, it certainly ain't working.

Heat going to the rear seats has been a feature in the Civic since at least 92. Its on all models...on the floor setting. There should also be a diagram in your owner's manual, too.

Talking

I got into my center consel and dash heat up problem today. Opened up the consel and sure enough a 45 degree part of the duct had came loose.

I put it back in its proper spot. Thumped it with my finger and it fell right back out again.

So with that I went to get my drill and a shooter screw. Installed the screw. Zip Zing,,, Done.

Whole project didnt take 30 mins from start to finish. Even had to pull the consel to retrive a clip that fell off from the top cover of the consel. Pulling the consel itself is easy as can be. Four screws, remove the cover under the dash on passenger side and to push locks one wire and its out of there.

Dash has also cooled down alot. I couldnt see taking the darn thing into a dealer for such a stupid simple repair and improvement. ( ie the screw LMAO )

I hope this helps out.

**** that... I want a recall so I can take it back to my dealer and demand some sort of perk for the inconvenience.... ie: aux jack for my DX-G model civic.

I usually try that but my dealership has been good to me. If they hadn't offered to pick my vehicle up and drop it off I would have definately done that. I know stuff like that adds up eventually and causes prices to rise but I hope not to buy another new vehicle for a long time.

Your NOT going to get a recall for a duct issue! Its not a saftey issue at all. Like there going to put a AUX jack in for you over a heater duct. I would laugh in your face. And then write your phone number on bathroom stalls. What a tool. Buys a DX and then plans to whine for something that would have been standard if not a cheap a$$.. God

I dunno about asking for a perk, but if someone didn't want to fix it themselves I'd certainly expect the dealership to fix it for you. Me, I'd prolly just rip into the dash and do what psyshack recommended.

But psy, seriously, calm down man. I agree asking a dealership for a freebie due to a manufacturing defect is a bit much, but you don't have to rip the guy a new one.

Good call Gonzo. I agree. I am a little cheap myself though. I sell appliances and electronics and I also realize that you can't get anything for free unless you ask. They attempted my fix for this problem 3 times before they put a screw in it. My problem is that I don't have the time to do this during the week, so when the salesperson picks my car up for me it more than compensated the fact that it took them 3 times to fix it. Besides, it is the first year and I am VERY pleased with my purchase. They even caught the recalls before anyone (to my knowledge) got hurt.
I think the solution is simple, fix it yourself or you should be able to get it fixed at the dealer under warranty.

I sell and design setup for Boilers, Chillers, pumps and there support systems. I also do there start ups and warrenty work. I dont install. I see folks buy the cheapist and expect the best and the poor me you should pay stuff 5 days a week. I was out of line,,, sorry. But come on.. Its a heater duct on a new gen. I agreed to be a test dummy for the right to own the only new Civic in my county.... :)
