Burning smell at higher RPMs

As the topic says, this is bugging me because none of my friends' cars smell like this. When I run my Civic ('06 LX Sedan auto) and really give it gas (e.g. making it shift at 5-6k RPM) after just a little bit I smell a burning smell, which honestly bothers me, coming from a pretty much brand new car. Any ideas what may be causing this smell? Maybe just the gas I'm using or something? It's similar to burning clutch, except my car is automatic.

Yeah...this happens to my car also.. I’m pretty sure its because the engine is brand new and your running it pretty hard..I know there has to be more of a science to it but that I guess is the overall concept..

By the way have you noticed that the LX engine is pretty fast...I have had my share of comparison tests...and my civic has been most victorious...

May not be your problem, but burning catalytic converters give off an odd smell. I have a very hard time believing that would be the problem though if your fuel system is stock, and the car does not have that many miles on it.

Mine smelled for a little while too when it was new, I think it was all the detailing shiny crap they spray on the engine to make it look so nice... Think the heat was just burning it off.

I had a 03 Honda Accord LX prior to my SI...same sh!t. that burning smell will be there for about 10K to 20K miles, like fiji06si13 stated, its just factory oil coatings and paints, they burn off eventually
