12v outlet in the armrest?

So iv seen this, and never really thought of it..What use is it for? I mean there arnt any holes were you can run a wire out from it, so if you pluged something in, you can't close the armrest? What the hell is this for lol..

I ran one there once. I had to slam the armrest but it closed

I was running a portable GPS and just purchased a radar detector while on the trip so it wasn't hard wired yet

You can plug in your cell phone and leave it in there.
I have my Ipod connection run under the center then routed through into the console. Sometimes IPod battery dies when the radio fails to turn it off. So I used it to plug IPod from time to time.

But you can close the lid with a wire running out.

hmm, But i wish we had the little cut out like the older TL's because i got an Ipod Dock with a neck, and a wire for the AUX for my ipod..and i wanted to put it there and make it look cool sticking out, but i guess i can't do that

I have 3 cord running out of my armrest, and it closes fine, XM antenna in, back right, and XM antenna out and XM power on the back left, it closes normally and the cables look fine.

I have the power for my Sirius satellite radio going to that outlet, and the armrest closes just fine over the wire, although it's thin.

I run it to there as opposed to the one in the dash as the dash one gives engine noise through the speakers.

You can close the lid without slamming it. Just press the wire away from the latch area and close it. No slamming necessary.

you can take the black rubber mat out of the bottom of the center console, drill a small hole to fit your wire through, snake it under and out the bottom side of the center console, put the rubber mat back in and plug in your device. the matt fits back in almost perfect and if you ever want to take the wiring out, you wouldnt know the hol eis tehre

Or just simply run the cord out of the top of the box and gently close the lid. No drilling of anything at all necessary...
