Hitting the wall between 1st and 2nd gear? MT

Okay, So I have the sedan with manual transmission. I've tried many different RPM's while shifting from 1st to 2nd and found that no matter which one I try, I can never accelerate smoothly from 1st to 2nd with this car. I will accellerate in first up to 20...30...40..KM/h for instance then pop the clutch and throw it in 2nd but when I try to engage clutch again, its like the momentum is lost entirely. Only when I wait a gradually release clutch and gradually engage clutch does it shift smoothly but the momentum is also lost this way. Anyone else experience this?

I shift at 3000rpm then

1.step on clutch
2.shift into 2nd
3.wait until rpms drop to about 2000rpm
4.gradually ease out the clutch pedal

that should do the trick...the new throttle by wire takes a while to get used...

I'll give that a shot... but I'm talking about fast acceleration. I don't think I'll be getting good time off the line shifting into 2nd at 3000rpm. I'll play with it some more though. Does no one else have this problem?

Yeah I've experienced this as well. I found that if I mash the pedal as I'm releasing the clutch the problem is greatly reduced. It is rather annoying since none of my other drive-by-wire cars did this.

I also can't stand the surge when the gas pedal is released and pressed again regardless of how softly it's pressed. I have tried to push the pedal as slightly as possible and the car does nothing for the first few millimeters of movement and then all-of-a-sudden it surges forward. What's even more strange is that it doesn't always do this but most times it does. Not sure under what conditions the PCM decides it should transition smootly but I wish it would do it all the time!

Yah I noticed it between first and second too... I'm hoping I just get used to it and start shifting better lol. It doesn't do it all the time though.

i have the same problem too...

It's hard to drive this car fast....for shifts 1-2, anything above 3k is very jerky. I find it easier to shift it at 2500 rpm, but that's a slow take off speed....I hope Honda comes up with a reflash for the computer.

They have a fix for it.
Shift faster.

Dont delay so much. Even when your driving around town. Theres no need to take 4 seconds to shift. Just get it done.

I took the car out of the dealer and I got the same delay/jerk. It annoyed me, so I made it stop.

Thats what I'm talking about... it takes me nearly a half second to pop clutch, throw it into second, and release clutch... but when released, there is no torque. Its like trying to accelerate from full stop in 2nd gear.

It just takes some getting used to thats all.
Im not defending it. I hate it. But Ive learned to work around it.

BTW that Dx must be pretty quick huh ?
I should have waited and got one instead of my Lx.

I have no problems shifting at all. I like that it holds revs abit. Dosent matter low rpms or redline shifts. It just zips thru the gears. The tranny and clutch havent balked on me yet. Waiting on a mod to shorten the shift throw abit.

Its a warmer day in Toronto today... I didn't experience this trouble as much when I took the car out. This might only be an issue on cold days.

Come to think of it I think you might be on to something Incongruent. I too tried to replicate the problem to show my buddy yesterday and it would not do it for the life of me. It has been warmer recently and I seem to notice this problem a lot more on my way to work at 5 a.m. (after the engine has warmed up since I don't push it until then) than on the way home.

I can't get used to the Drive-by-Wire Throttle System and maybe that's what your feeling.

I'm having the identical 1-2 problem. I'm thinking something's very wrong. I've had several car enthusiast friends of mine drive it as well and they all agree that is funky. If I'm super cautious about when I shift and how fastly I release the clutch I can occassionally avoid it, but other times, it still happens. Plus, I don't want to have to consciously think about shifting from 1-2.

Also, I've noticed it shifting into 2nd from Neutral, say in a turn or going slow in a parking lot. I have a speed bump in my apartment parking lot that I take slow every day (in Neutral) (anywhere between 8-18 mph). The car freaking hates getting abck into 2nd. So frustrating! What's the deal??

The 06 civic is a little more sensitive.
Hold the clutch down a little longer when transitioning from 1st to 2nd and it wont bump as much - you should almost have even weight on both the clutch and gas.

Think of it like balancing on a see-saw, when one is depress the other goes up. Do this very slightly.

As far as shifting fast you gotta ease the clutch into gear, matching it with the speed of the engine. I guess it's really hard to explain...it's something you're gonna have to get used to.
I've been driving stick for 14 years on different cars. Maybe you're just not used to it yet?
