Hearing a "CLUNK" sound - sometimes when turning on the A/C, (SOMETIMES)

Just today I got in my Si and turned and started to get going etc and after about 2 minutes into driving outa my apt complex, I turn on the A/C and i hear a "CLUNK" sound as if the A/C unit WOKE UP and just took a DUMP or something LOL. ofcourse the A/C ran fine and all and everything was ok but I was wondering why it did that in the first place as soon as I turned on the A/C. So far I have NOT had any technical problems with my 07 Si, So I was just wondering if any of you that have an Si or even ANY newer civic has had this happen....? I know that sometimes when a person turns on the A/C for the first time when driving that you can hear the machine turn on and it just sounds awfull sometimes you know?. it still blows nice cooler air and all and everything checks out fine. it rained the day before and all through the night so i'm wondering if for some chance that, that had something to do with it?. it was pretty humid outside so i dunno.

I think the sound he is talking about is more than just the sound of a compressor turning on. Its happened to me as well. I turned on the AC one day and the car jerked forward and I heard a loud clunking sound. I almost crapped myself but hasn't happened for a while.

The compressors on the new civics are very loud and can be heard at just about any speed when they turn on and off.

i thought that i was going to have to take it in. but i don't worry about things THAT much. i figure, it's a new car and it shouldn't be giving me any problems.

i hope to HELL that my 07 and ALL 07 civics don't have to go through a RECALL....EVER!

If you don't use the compressor for a while like say for a whole winter...the compressor clutch gets a rusty build up and if you engage it it's not a smooth engagment it will make a wierd noise.......and sometimes may pull a heavy load on engine......think of it like disc brakes after a heavy rain storm and the car sits for a few days after you will see rust on the rotors.....

dude holy CRAP! I thought I Was the only one. Mine makes a loud clunk noise just like the one you described. A few times I thought I had hit the curb backing out. Then I figured out it was the AC compressor.

What I noticed is that it only does it if the car sits over 12 hours or so and/or is parked outside. It didnt do it when I parked in my parents garage.

It is very weird I hope it isnt hurting anything.

I am afraid to bring it to honda because they will probably want me to leave it there overnight...and that is a great way to get dents.

the compressor clutch gets a rusty build up from moisture in the air overnight and if you engage it it's not a smooth engagment it will make a wierd noise.......and sometimes may pull a heavy load on engine......and pullit down close to a stall this is normall try engaging it while already going forward or warming up car and use the defrost it will clear out by the time you drive it...

I figured it had something to do with the clutch engagement since it would only do it when the AC was turned to on instead of just when it was on vent.
