This will happens sometime (rarely), but shouldn't happen all the time. Just go to second and back to first and it should be back in. Also keep your car in gear when slowing down, helps it decellerate so you dont kill your brake as fast.

Just curious. Are you still rolling when you try to put it back into gear? I've had problems putting it into the lower gears while the car is moving. I'm not sure if it's some sort of 'speed lock' or what, but yea. Good luck. Keep us posted on what happens after ya bring it in! :)

you shouldn't put it into first unless you're at a crawling speed. this happens to me, but it's more of a notchy feeling than not being able to put it into first...

Yea. Notchy. I mean it doesn't totally block it out or anything... Just gotta push a bit harder. But then it feels like I'm breaking it. Btw, I don't go to first if I'm not crawlin. I was referring to 2nd gear at like 19 mph...

The dealer won't say anything. 1st gear has the most resistance period and is always the toughest gear to downshift into. Unless you are on a racetrack/auto-x course then downshifting to first is not really that necessary or useful. Lots of trannies do not have speedlocks on them and quite honestly I doubt this one does. Usually a speedlock is just the fact that you are going to fast and/or not rev-matching to downshift.
Still want to downshift into first? Things to try/consider:
1) rev match, rev match, rev match
2) as someone said, 1-2 gears are on the same slider, try shifting to 2nd gear first then going to 1st. If you are already downshifting through the gears properly, by the time you want to downshift to first you should be coming out of 2nd at the proper speed and there should be no problems
3) switch to a better MT fluid, ie: amsoil
4) rev match again
5) practive downshifting into first from slow speeds (under 10-15mph) first and get used to blimping the throttle to rev match. Then once you get better try it at speeds a little bit higher. 25mph 1st downshift should be no problem if you are doing it correctly. <-- to the OP BTW since he said its his first MT car

Good luck! It sounds like everything is normal to me, you just need a little practice and all will get better!

What he said. You'll have to rev match in order to get it to slip into first gear. There's nothing wrong with the car.

Think about 2 gears coming in contact, sometimes the teeth will line up perfectly and they will not lock in. This, as you can imagine, is rare, but happens.

i guess that its jus the gears not locking but other then that it does fine an i decided not to take it in an spend 100bucks for them to tell me that its fine but it might be the trannyfluid cuz it did come from the dealer but i dont know ill change it when i need to cuz i dont wanna change anything right now cuz im not even in the 1000 mile range im like in 600 miles besides im braking the car in so i think it should go away over time but if not ill definently take it in to get it looked at with out hesitation
