Fuel smell from the vents on start-up
On my 2006 Sedan, with the vents set to fresh air, if I park my car for a few minutes and get back in and start it up I get a noticeable fuel odor that blows through the vents in the dash. It only lasts a couple seconds but it is noticeable and repeatable.
Keep in mind that the car is still hot when this occurs too. Does anybody else notice this? Maybe give it a try.. keep the fan speed set to low, fresh air, ac off and when you start it (when its still hot) see if you get the gas smell... |

The last thing I want to do is take it to the dealer to investigate a fuel leak... God knows all they will say is, "we don't smell anything -- we can't find anything -- everything is great"

+1 This will stop it everytime. It seems that Hondas/Acuras bring fuel smells inside if the outside air vent is on. I put it on recirculate and it goes away. Has happened with my Integra, 06 Civic and now my RSX. If it's still noticable on recirculate then you might have a problem. |

Yes that will fix it but with fresh air on (which is all I ever use unless its extremely hot outside) there should NOT be any fuel odors. It's not the end of the world but it is annoying. My other Honda doesn't do this EVER. |

fuel odor?
Since the fuel system on all new vehicles is a closed loop there should never be a fuel odor coming from under the hood or through the vent system. The whole system is designed to eliminate raw fuel and if you smell fuel (gasoline) something is wrong. Exceptions...a car in front of you is leaking gasoline and that odor persists a while after it turns off...you just filled your gas can for your lawn mower and it is in the trunk or recently was in the trunk....you are at the gas station filling your tank (or gas can) and this smell invades the interior as you leave. Otherwise NO raw fuel smell should be there..
