aim for 1-2.5 because 3+ will wear out your clutch more

Instead of revving the engine up to a certain rpm and letting go of the clutch, try giving it gas while simultaneously lifting the clutch pedal. Practice letting go of the clutch as early as possible while still giving the car a smooth start.

Reverse gear is more "forgiving" because the gear ratio is greater.

Try easing off on the accelerator there. 1500rpm is good enough to launch under normal driving conditions (I personally launch at 1000-1250rpms). What you're doing wrong is not thinking about the clutch. Release the clutch more, not mash on the accelerator. Think of it this way, 1st and reverse = clutch to get you going.

Keep at it, and you'll eventually have more trouble staying in first gear than getting out of it.

Good luck!
