so i got an o6 Si used with just under 4thou miles. the car runs perfect as youd expect with such low mileage, the only problem is that 3rd gear, ive read on here that people have problems with it but i think theres definitelly something wrong with mine. basically i doesnt always stick to the third gear i always have to really make sure its in before i disengage the clutch, and this begomes a serious problem when i need to gain that speed and shift and engage quicker.
so i have two questions1. can i ask the dealer to do something for me to fix that?(do i have any legit rights?) 2. or would a short throw shifter kit solve most of that problem most of the time there are two clicks that you feel when its engaged and that way i know im not going to grind a gear when i let go of the clutch, its when it goes in smoothly that can throw me off and pop out grinding that gear. \\ any feedback would be greatly appreciated |

you know, ive noticed those two clicks in my SI also, only on 3rd gear. when you push the shifter up it is like there is a slight hesitation before full engaugement... and 3rd is the only time i would grind a gear.... weird that i have the same problem.

Yup third feels like two stages in my 07 Si. The first stage it will grind if you let the clutchup, you have to have it click a second time before it really goes in.
Mine doesnt do it all the time though, only sometime............. BTW i would take it to the dealer before doing anything else |

yeah hah thats kinda funny, i thought maby the guy who had the car be4 me was an ass**** about how he drove the car, but after reading so much feedbak and other stories of the 3rd gear i seems like unless youre willing to take a risk of voiding your warrainty you wont get anywhere wit hthe 3rd gear issue that really sucks and matters when you need to go! |

i dont really race as per say, but when i get called out by other cars ten years older and all that, and i almost mess up 3rd or hesitate to put it in, it all around sucks for owning an si, but besides that and maby the rev hang the car i perfect, plus you cant expect everything to be perfect

The cheapest easiest resolution is the fluid change to a Syncromesh like Amsoil or RoyalPurple. Give those a whirl and see if they don't eliminate most if not all of your concern. I'd just be very wary of letting anyone rip into my tranny when a simple change of fluids may be all it takes.
The tranny in the Si isn't silky smooth, it has some notchyness that won't go away though. But the fluid change will correct the wanting to pop from gear, or be difficult to engage. |

When I was buying my FG about 2 months ago, the manager as normal was trying to make the car sound like it was the best in the world. What he didn't know was that I've been to a meet and have disussed with people their problems and other misc. things. Also researching on 8thgen as well. When I brought up the problem ot the 3rd ger issue, he immediately said to bring it to the dealer. American Honda had a huge issue on warranty items a few years ago on what can be warrantied or not due to mods, technicalities nad other crap they can bust out on you. Well, appearantly they fixed that and if you came in with a problem they should fix it with little argument unless they find a direct cause of the problem from a mod that's been done if any. So as I was naming problems he told me that I shouldn't be driving that crazy in the first place. I simply countered him as asking why would honda make a performance car if they didn't think anyone was gonna drive the car to the expectations that honda sets out for it... he shut up and said that within our 3 year/36000 warranty we can bring it back and they will try to fix the problem.
If a dealership is giving you problems I suggest to let them know that you're willing to take the problem to corporate about they're warranties. I'm KINDA in a argument right now with the dealership that I got my car from. They drilled a 3rd hole into my front bumper through the license plate frame with a self-tapping screw. There's already 2 bolts in the bottom grill manufactured for the license plate frame. According to the recent meet in sacramento, this is the only dealership that's done this indicating it is not a requirement or a law in california to drill a 3rd hole INTO the bumper. This indicates a technician specific issue and I'm trying to get it resolved. In other words, no fix is better than getting it done by the dealer. Especially if you're within the warranty. So if you do have problem I suggest you fight the dealer as much as you can before you start trying diff. fluids with additives. Last edited by mad monkey; 04-08-2007 at 08:28 PM. |
