Holy Rattle, Batman!

I am going insane. I have a service appointment on Thursday (as well as a free forty point inspection), that I have been crossing off the days for.

My Civic Si (2006) has always had a slight, minute rattle on the passenger side, and I have a feeling it is the dreaded seat squeak I've heard about from others. It was hardly noticeable at first (and only my hypersensitive ears could hear at first), and now it's a full out rattle.

It's so bad that I can't drive for more than five minutes without having to stop and slam my head against a hardwood tree or kill a baby, whichever is closer. It is an incessant rattling and buzzing sound.

When I apply pressure to the passenger seat, it stops. It sounds like it is comign from the door, but I have a feeling it is the seat.

Sorry I just need to vent. It's been driving me up the effing wall.

That, and they're going to look at the peeling paint on the bumper just where the headlight meets the bumper (I've seen at least 5 other Civic's with paint peeling here, how unacceptable).

Blaaaaah

^ Sorry to hear At least you got an appointment in fairly short order.
I put your comment in bold because I was thinking maybe for now, before they fix it you could put something on the seat that will keep the pressure constant... I don't know, like a really heavy book or something... just so no more innocent babies have to die
Good luck

sorry to hear about your problem ringpop. hope you get it fixed without hassle!

trust me, i know how you feel... not only do i have your rattle, i also have 19 other defects with my 06 civic:

1) Rattles from both driver's door and passenger's door (dealer denied being able to hear them, i fixed them myself with dynamat+foam)

2) Rattle from sunroof (dealer denied being able to hear it, still unfixed)

3) Driver's door reluctant to close (dealer denied problem, fixed myself)

4) Boot lid made a massive creaking sound upon opening (dealer fixed)

5) Exhaust finisher fell off (dealer "fixed", then both finishers fell off later)

6) Rear seat had a noticeable grease stain upon delivery (dealer fixed)

7) Metal-on-metal rattle sound from behind glovebox (dealer fixed)

8) Dash panels behind the steering wheel creak and grind when the car turns a corner

9) Rattle from front passenger's seat over bumps <-- same as yours probably

10) Heavy metallic rattle from engine bay (identified in America as a malfunctioning engine mount (!) but Honda Australia denies any knowledge of this and says it's normal)

11) Boot lid trim missing... apparently there's a recall for this

12) Metallic rattling sound from the radio/glovebox area

13) Centre console box lid missing parts

14) Hard plastic "ka-thunk" sound from passenger seat during deceleration

15) Underbody rust and sound protection (Honda accessory) not applied to wheel wells as advertised

16) Car makes a 19th-century kettle whistling sound if the front demister is used for more than a few seconds

17) Passenger's front airbag now rattling all the time

18) Rattle from inside centre console (fixed myself with foam)

19) Rattle from passenger side air vents (keeping a hand on them stops this particular sound)

20) High-pitched whine from engine bay at 70-75 kph in 5th gear while on throttle

Damn, that's a lot of problems for any car, let alone from a so-called "quality" manufacture

Sounds like you may have a lemon on your hands there.

Take a look into your state's lemon laws.

I'd imagine that your dealer absolutely hates to see you pull in, its probably not to far off to assume that they'd be thinking you're overly critical and can't be satisfied so they just dismiss most of your claims, thinking you're a lunatic.

my rattle is coming from inside the sunroof...i already lubricated the rubber around the glass like this other dude but no results...its cool just to turn on the music but when you want to have a conversation, its almost too annoying

unfortunately i live in sydney, australia, where there are no such laws. i've scheduled a meeting tomorrow morning with the service manager and senior tech at what's supposed to be sydney's best honda service centre, we'll see how that goes.

BlackSupraC2: does the rattle go away if you close the sunroof from the slide position rather than the tilt position? for my sunroof rattle that does the trick, but it's a pita to have to do everytime. the dealer tried to fix it at my first service by lubricating it, but to no avail.
