Si Owners WATCH OUT!! Your tires are worth a mortgage payment!

So unfortunately during my drive home from a night out with friends, I hit a pretty knarly pothole and blew out the sidewall of my OEM tires. Thinking quickly, I pulled off the road before damaging the lip of my rims and I lucked out, not a scratch!

This morning a went to sears, firestone, discount tire, and tires plus is search of a replacement. Costco finally fufilled my request and handed me a bill for $280 BUCKS!!! I was shocked. Be forewarned the Michelin Pilot MX4's that come standard on the civic SI ARE the most exprensive series of tires available for passenger car use. I actually found out it was 60 dollars cheaper if I were to buy 20" Eagle F1's!!

Long story short...be aware of the road hazards (which really goes without saying) unless you wish to seriously lighten your wallet

What tires did you get? Pilot MX4's are crappy tires as my Dad has it on his Accord. For about 200 dollars, you could get Pilot Sport A/S which is probably the best for your SI.

The Michelin Pilot 21545R17 on the Civic Si are "V" rated not "H" rated like the accord. They are certified for speeds in excess of 130 MPH. The slight rating difference makes a huge impact on the price. I also didnt want to mismatch tires/tread.

Holy crap. Now I'm glad my dealer here offers free tires for life as long as I get it serviced there. That's three and a half car payments with just one set!

Any tire that says DOT approved like this pair of Drad Radials by Kumho work

http://www.jegs.com/webapp/wcs/store...52295_-1_36696

The traction will rock, but the treadlife is VERY limited

Im thinking for that price...I may as well just buy a whole new replacement set. Save these tires for winter driving.

OEMs always cost a ton to replace. I got a screw in the sidewall after 3 days of ownership with an older WRX that I had with some of the most craptastick all season tires around, and every place wanted like $220 for the tire and a bunch more to mount and balance.

I was already thinking of selling my summer tires for something more suited for my driving. Now I'm even one step closer.

No flipin' way am I gonna pay 560.00 for two tires if I hit a pothole.

Thanks for the pricing info!

Actually $280 doesn't sound bad. My OEM 17" Michelin Pilot 225/55ZR17 HMMX4's for my Intrepid go for $400 each.

......those tires sucked BTW. I'm now rolling on BF Goodrich 255/35ZR20's that cost 1/2 the price, grip 3 times better, and have better treadwear.

+1 The OEM spec tire is always much more expensive, doesn't matter if it's one of my cars, or one of my motorcycles. Same deal applies. I've been very happy with the mileage, grip, and noise level of the Kumhos. They are great tires for the price.
