Rear Brake Rotors Bad?

Today I was checking my tire pressure and noticed that my rear rotors had deep grooves in them. I only have 2,060 miles on my car and was wondering if this was a factory defect or if they just need to be broken in. Another thing that may be important to add is that they both have these grooves on them.

Pictures would be good, but grooves aren't necessarily a sign of anything particularly wrong. They should be fairly shallow, though.

Grooves on rotors are normal after a certain amount of time. 2060 miles seams a little early but road debris and dirt can get onto the brake pads and as you use them, this grit and or dirt causes grooves.

Pictures... I will see if I can go take some. They are very deep in my opinion though.

Okay I have some pics. Sorry they are so big, this is the best I can do with the camera I have. I was thinking it would be easier to see with such big pictures. It almost looks like a brake in area on the rotor, but then again I have never seen this before on a set of rotors. and one more .

Did you drive through some sand this winter? Do your rear brakes make any noise?

You might want to pull off the calipers and look at the pad face. There might be some small rocks or sand stuck in the chamfers??????

I've never seen them that bad though?

Let us know,
Brian

by the looks of the first picture it looks like somethings been grinding into the rotor...could be a bad pad with the rivets digging in...but most likely it's road debris that is caught between the rotor and pad.

Those grooves are definately not normal unless you were driving with worn pads and the brake linings made contact with the rotors.

Looks like road debris got lodged into the pads and that's all she wrote!

Well I appreciate all of your replies. I am also having a problem with a ticking noise in the back right so I am gonna bring it in. This should be covered under warranty because I have only had the car for 4 weeks and it only has 2,100 miles on it. I will bring it in next week and let you guys know what is up. Oh, and to reply to those of you saying something is in the pad/rotor area, I haven't done any off roading or driven on any salted roads considering I live in south Louisiana.

Well just as a follow up to this thread I brought my car to the dealer today to get it looked at and they told me it is "normal wear and tear. The only reason I saw it was that the rims are more open and I am able to see them better and it is more noticable." They they said "we even compared them to the ones on our Si's on the lot and they looked similar." That sounds a little strange to me, but until they give me any real problems then I guess I will just let it go.
Oh and the ticking noise went away on its own...

Kinda wierd. You should check out some Si's for yourself and see if the rotors look like that. I'll take a look at mine later

Yeah, I couldn't agree more. I might bring it to another dealership or something.

Sounds like the dealership was giving you the brush off. Comparing two cars when it comes to brakes is stupid. No two cars brake alike and no sets of rotors and pads where the same from car to car, change to change.

Go somewhere else. Having open rims means nothing.

Rubbish

If the pictures posted are actually from a 2,600 mile car then these rotors are ruined for one reason or another. My state has annual state auto inspections and I can tell you this..those would not pass. In fact, there is no way they should look anything like this at such a low mileage unless you mean 26,000 miles. In any case I recommend replacement and if you have 2,600 miles then replaced under warranty....if you have 26,000 miles then replaced at your own expense but replaced in either case.
