Electrical Problems... Honda screwed me!

Ok, so, today im driving around in my 06 LX coupe, and my stereo cuts out for some reason. I found that to be odd, never had any problems like that thus far. So I park the car at my friends house so we can take a look at it, and when I get in and try to start the engine, nothing happens. Well, I shouldnt say that, it clicked, then nothing happened. So I figure its a dead battery. I used some jumper cables and it started right up, then I took it down to the honda dealer. They tell me theyll take a look at it, then call me back. Well, I get a call back an hour or so later, and they tell me I have a problem with my intake (AEM cold air). So im like, "Ok, what does this have to do with my electrical problems?" And he tells me my car is running lean because of the intake. I tried to tell the guy I dont care about the intake, thats not why im here, im here cuz my f*cking car wont start! So basically what ended up happening is, I had to pay $100 for them to tell me somethings wrong with my intake, which has absolutely NOTHING to do with the real problem, my electrical system. So where I stand now is, Im out $100, and my brand new car doesnt work. Like, I cant even drive the thing, it wont start without jumper cables. Yeah... i dont think I'll be buying another honda any time in the near future....

Go back to the dealership and speak with the Service manager. Be calm and don't blow your top. Yet. Tell him you know your rights as a consumer and you feel that they are being infringed upon by that service department. You brought your car in because of an electrical problem with your stereo and starting. Not because your intake is supposedly running lean. If this were the case you'd have a check engine light. Then add that you are not an idiot and you want the initial problem fixed and that you do not appreciate the run around that you're getting from that dealership that you are extremely dissapointed in their service at the moment and now you are forced to doubt any of their prognosis since you brought the car in for electrical and they check engine? Your intake will not cause your car to die in that manner. Ask him how this is supposed to make sense.

If you have any questions regarding your rights as a consumer click on the link in my sig. It's a link to the Warranty act that protects you from this exact problem.

*sigh*, well, this is probably whats gonna end up f*cking me over, but, I DO have a CEL. And it is from the intake, its the original AEM cold air for the R18, and like many other, Ive had the CEL on since I installed it... which is about a year.
Bascially what they did to me was disregard what my actual problem was, and instead find something on the car that they can make me pay for. I can just imagine the dollar signs in their eyes when they saw my intake.

Yowsers! Not good all. In that case, do what was said in the other post. Put the stock airbox back on and find another dealer.

yeah, that looks like what im gonna have to do. I've been meaning to take out the intake anyways to exchange it for the new one that doesnt trip the CEL.
Still cant believe that though, that they'd actually just completely disregard whats actually wrong with my car, and instead just find something they can make money off. What a bunch of assholes, regardless of what happens im gonna call the manager of the dealer I took it to and really give him hell. I know its not gonna get me anywhere, but Ill feel better having vented. And Ill also feel better knowing that me cussing this guy out is probably gonna ruin his day, I love that power. I cant wait!

I've had a dealer attempt to charge me for looking at something I didn't tell them to look at... I simply told them I wasn't paying them for work I didn't ask them to do, and to diagnose the issue that I brought the vehicle in for. It worked. Speak with the service manager. Your results may vary...

If you were to reset the ECU, would your CEL come on immediately after you've started the engine? If it doesn't come on for a certain amount of miles, then a fast alternative I can think of is to disconnect the negative terminal of the battery, let the ECU reset itself and the codes should have been cleared.

PS - There is a fix from AEM about your intake CEL issue. Get the fix from AEM, and you should clear your CEL issue. So when that's fixed, then take it to Honda. If the service manager is a PITA, then call Honda and complain. Just keep going up.

you don't sound like a very calm guy, relaxxx....., not that big of a deal, just do as the other members told you.

Dealership guys deal with people like you everday, you screaming at them is not going to ruin his day, it'll just be another regular day for him. All that blood rushing to your head probably not good for your health either.

his car doesnt work. i am sure he wants it running and doesnt want to wait the 2 weeks it proboyl gets AEM to send the intake.

as some one mentioned earlier....disconnect the battery for a minute to reset teh ecu. then bring the car to a different dealer when the CEL isnt on.

id put the stock air box back in(need to anyways to send off your aem cai) take it back to the original dealer and tell them you want a refund because they did not diagnose the problem you wanted them to diagnose. you requested they do a service and they did not do it. they did a different service. then, go to another dealer(w. stock air box) and have them try to diagnose the problem. The simple truth is that they can not get rid of your warentee just because you have an after market part on your car. you have rights. if they do try to void your warentee(which i highly doubt they will) then sue them up and down. good luck!

exactly, I cant wait that long to have my car running again. Today im gonna put my stock intake back on and take it to a different dealer. Once my car is all stock again, theyll have no choice but to actually fix the problem with my battery or whatever. Once that happens Ill call back the dealer thats trying to screw me, and tell them how terrible they are and how great the other dealer is. Ill just have to deal with jump starting my car every time til then... (and hope I dont stall while driving, lol)

well... looks like im gonna have to wait afterall. I tried to put the stock intake back on myself.... no luck. I mean, I got the cold air out, and put the stock one back in, but theres still some parts I couldnt figure out what to do with....
Like some of the little vacuum lines towards the bottom part of the stock intake. Also, what the hell is the second air box thats down behind the bumper. Theres no filter in it, what the hell does it do?
Anyways, im gonna have to wait til I can get someone who knows this type of stuff better than me to do this for me so I dont mess anything up....*sigh*
