Rear wheel bearing TOAST!

yup, after only 32,000km on my car my rear passanger wheel bearing is completely destroyed.
I was driving an appointment today and i could hear something that wasn't quiet right, but by the time i got to my appointment I could barely drive the car. I got it towed to Honda and they told me that the wheel bearing was totally destroyed. They were completely floored with how bad of shape it was in.
anyway i got a rental today and it should be done tomorrow by noon.
i certainly wasn't impressed that it happened but at least its getting dealt with.
just a heads up

At that mileage it's a manufacturing defect, something wasn't right when it was assembled. Better that it happened now, and not when the warranty expired.

Have you had any damage or repair work done in the area?

my civic is my office for work. i'm in sales and on the road. i average over 620KM per tank (385miles) and drive fairly conservatively IMO as I'm an advisor for my company so if I get called in for reckless driving/speeding its an issue.
no off roading and no hard cornering/braking etc etc. its a daily driver and that's it.
The car has had 0 problems to date with ANYTHING mechanical, just oil changes and I had a few interior pieces replaced due to wear in such a short period. Nothing to do with the suspension/wheel at all. I regularly rotate my tires also, and maintain proper air pressure.
The first signs of it going last night was during a rain storm and I thought I could hear rolling thunder in the distance, it was infact my rear bearing starting to go. By today when I got to my appointment it sounded like i had gravel between my brake pads and my rotors, it was a gut wrenching sound, screaching/chunky kind of noises.
It is going to be done under warranty, should have it back tomorrow. I asked them to inspect the other bearings while they had the car for me.

When i got to go and get my stuff from the car the wheel was still off aswell as the rotor. I grabbed the wheel studs and rotated it and it was sooo notchy and not fluid that it was scary. I've had bearings go on other cars and NEVER was it this bad, especially after such a low milage car and for how quickly it deteriorated. It was litterally within 80miles of driving from the first noise to the time I didn't feel safe driving the car. It was shocking.

I will report more back in when I get the car back and they tell me more. They were very quiet at the dealership and didn't say much as they got me out of there pretty quick.

HTH

Oh dear god.... tell this is not going to be an issue in this car too! I went through FIVE wheel bearings on one corner of my Subaru... the final fix was to install a completely new hub assembly from a newer car (updated design).

A bad wheel bearing sounds like a roaring... a dull roar coming from the corner of the car. It doesn't really vary too much with speed... just a roa... and when the bearing is in TOTAL failure, it is almost deafening loud...

I will get rid of this car if this becomes a problem... that was one of the top reasons why I was selling my Subaru...

UPDATE
my dealer got the wrong part in today.
i guess the baring didn't have the appropriate holes for the rotors to be affixed to. this makes me wonder if they are using a white box part instead of OEM Honda... either way they said they ordered the correct one and it should be in tomorrow...
yay for rentals. today I got a mazda6 fun fun
