bent valve in a si

i'm posting this so ppl will beware of the rev limiter being raised on the reflash from hondata. i had to pay $1800 out of pocket to have a valve replaced. i don't remember over-reving, but they say that's really the only way to do that to a valve. if anything happens to the head or engine on a si, don't expect honda to warrnaty it. i even got corporate involved, waited 3weeks, and they wouldn't cover it. so, beware of pushingthe k20 too hard. i thought they were indestructable :)

In some cases these cars actualy run better with a bent valve not more than one but with one it can and will run better.....no need to replace that unless you dropped the valve but I highly doubt that just being all motor./
Just my 2 cents....

I hope your kidding. Bent valves lead to broken valves. When they break and fall into the cylinder it cost alot more than $1800. Goodbye k20

why did honda not cover the bent valve? if you never over revved it should have been covered.

The hondata raises the rev limiter i think just doing that will void your warrenty even tho it can handle it ?

you might not remember it cause you probably didnt mean to but the only way i would think to over rev the car would be downshifting to much coming into a corner or downshifting to race someone or take off faster while your already at the top of the rpm's. i watched my tach go to the end of red and nothing happened while downshifting approching a corner.

of course they can...hook it up to the computer and it will tell the techs it's been "played with".

Holy shit. This sucks. I am keeping my fingers crossed and thanking god for my luck. In my 1 year of owner ship I have already mis-shifted into two gears to low on a upshift and over-reved 10+k three times....And I play with my hondata reflash a lot.

I noticed that the car doesn't really make that much more power after 8k anyway. It's best to enjoy your reflash at the lower RPM anyway. That's where it makes all the power.

Better safe than sorry for me in the future.

BWT, for $1800, you could have had a bad ass head, ported, complete with vavles and all if you would have searched around for a bit. If this is your daily driver I can understand the need to have Honda rush the fix.

Peace

That stinks. Anyway you could post the $1800 repair bill? Just curious to if it were only the exhuast valves that bent, how many or intakes as well.
