My tranny Saga

I've been through a lot of shit this past month with my 06 civic Si. Humming coming from the tranny, Honda denying my warranty all the way through customer service complaints, a local tranny shop ripping it apart and telling me that a mainshaft bearing and some other bearing was bad, replacing them and then getting that oh so wonderful phone call.

We put your tranny back in your car and the noise is still there.
They ripped it back apart this weekend and I looked over it with the guy. Shit is like new inside. It's only got 7k on the tranny......???

All the needle bearings on all the gear shafts all spin freely and were micd. So I just spent another $200 on bearings today.
And I'm so tired of this shit that I just dumped another $1200 on a tranny out of a fg2 with 3500 miles on it. The tranny that was on ebay incase anybody has seen it.
I will not deal with this shit any longer. This past month I was disgusted with the piece of shit Honda customer service while they were being crying bitches claiming that my extra hp from a intake and exhaust is their reasoning for not warrantying my tranny.
Screw em. I was so convinced that I was going to trade my car in. I was getting a new Tundra. Then a rav-4. Then a BMW 328i...then a new XB...thoughts of a mustang gt.
Then today I decided to keep my Si and I bought a new tranny.

I'm so pissed because I sold a lot of my parts (including my supercharger) to peeps on here at bargain basement prices...Oh well... My dumb ass learns once again.

Atleast I didnt sell my act 6 puck clutch and act 8lb flywheel (which I was close to doing last week)

That shit is at the tranny shop and when my car goes back together, I'm going turbo!

I'm really excited about having a extra tranny too. I'll buy a third one if I can get my hands on one because I plan on modding the dog shit and driving the living dog shit out of my car for many years to come....and I don't need to worry about a transmission ever again-------Fingers crossed.

I'll keep you all posted and when I find out what exactly is making my noise in my tranny, I'll post it.

I thing it may be my LSD. I wore it out by driving the shit of my car on back roads... JK---Possibly though.

Peace

Did Honda prove that it was your mods that caused the failure?? By law, Honda has to prove that any aftermarket mods caused the problem that they are denying warranty service on. It might be worth a few $$ to get an attorney familiar with the Magnuson-Moss Act and has dealt with the Federal Trade Commission - all it would take was a carefully worded letter from him to Honda to get them to back-off and potentially fix your tranny. Who knows - worth a try.

They didn't prove anything. To tell you the truth, going through all that shit isn't worth my time. I've got a couple of attorneys and I know through experience that I'm looking at $150.00 for them to write this letter for me.
They would continue to fight it anyway.

Not worth my time. When it is all said and done I'll have a extra tranny that will be like new and I'll have mods that would cause me to lose such a case in the future.

Their point was straight up. The MMA wouldnt have helped me anyways. They documented my ported intake manifold and my DCRH. They took pictures and have them on file. They also knew about my Hondata reflash. I would lose my ass off in court. They told me that if they were to research and find that my car has any extra HP that's all they would need to void my warranty.

And they are right.

Thanks for the kind thoughts though.

I mean no offense and don't intend to be mean...but...I'll never understand the mod's to the driveline and people expecting warranty service. Manufacturers have every right to deny claims in these cases. Good luck to anyone fighting a major manufacturer with that Moss-Magnuson Act, you'd better have mighty deep pockets.
Even if it isn't true, I/E mod's just scream "I'm being abused!!!"...LOL of course they'll void your drivetrain warranty. Really, what did you expect them to do?? Replace your tranny for something that you might *appear* to be abusing? Yeah right. And I'm not taking manufacturers side here, but let's face reality.
Again, no offense. :) (Really)

Sorry to hear about your problems, car problems suck not matter what they are.

I have heard so many people complain about honda giving them real problems when they need help.

So, your powertrain warranty is voided?? Or did they void the complete car??

That DOES suck... I am going to be going through a similar issue in a little bit... my tranny whines like a bearing noise when I let off the gas at about 4500 RPM (at 35 mph in 2nd gear it is VERY noticible). I work for the dealership, so they may be lenient about it. We'll see. If not, I will probably just end up doing the work myself. How much did that new tranny cost you, if you don't mind my asking?

BTW at the dealership I work for, we would have totally warrantied that tranny. I/H/E reflash? Who cares. We would only reject that claim if you had forced induction. I would have called AHM customer service.

Hehe, I have rebuilt many B-Series trannies, I figure this one will be about the same. There are 2 downsides to our setup, however... subframe removal makes this an on-the-lift job only, and.... prepare for the whine.... it takes ALL DAY to pull the tranny, rebuild it, and put it back in. Seriously, it took me 6 hours to do my clutch. Call me a crappy mechanic, I don't care. It was my first K-series. A full rebuild once the tranny is out adds another hour or so, and my whole day is shot. I just hope they will warranty it, and make some other tech do the wrenching

I don't quite see how it's not worth your time. You're losing out on a lot of money and time.

All I'd suggest is getting in contact with the service manager and outlining to him what the Maguson-Moss Warranty Act is all about. If he still wants to beat around the bush and deny the facts, then simply say you've tried to remain civil, but you'll escalate the issue to Honda of America and follow up legally if you have to. The last thing a dealership manager wants is HOA barking up his tree or a lawsuit.

The only thing I wouldn't suggest you do is make threats or be coercive. People just don't like it when they have to deal with customers who bitch at them and tell them how they want it. I work in a technical role myself and we end up giving people who do that a harder time than normal people.

I did contact American Honda Customer Service. They specifically told me that they have photographs of my modifications on file.

See I got into it big time with this idiot service manager while they had my car. In retaliation he took pictures of my car and sent it to Honda and told them that it is extremely modded....Even though it isn’t.

A few days later American Honda called me and informed me of my situation. They had also told me that I can no longer take my car in for ANY warranty work with out a special visit from a Regional rep to inspect my car thoroughly.

American Honda is not screwing with me and I'm not screwing with you.

As far as the guy who is asking me if I expected Honda to replace my transmission....Not really. I really didn't know. I figured that it doesn't hurt to try. As soon as I was told no my car was already in the shop with the tranny out and apart at a labor rate of only 60$/hr.

And why was it not worth my time? I live a busy life. I've got a family, I've got hobbies and I work my ass off.
When I come home from work, the last thing I want to do is dick around with BS when I can be sipping on a big cab or relaxing with my wife.
If I wasn't as fortunate as I am, I probably would have pressed on, but I felt that in this particular situation, I made the best decision.
Now I've got two trannys, my clutch and flywheel is installed and it only cost me 3k. Next time when I break my transmission because I'm feeding it 400 hp, I'll do a one day swap and be back on the road again loving life.
I'd rather be at home depot looking at countertops than talking to some idiot little bia on the phone from honda trying to explain to me that I am a bad person and what not.

I've got a life to live. And I plan to keep on my pace of enjoying it. I am glad that I made the decision to keep this car and not sell it.

No offence. I'll keep you posted on what is making my humming noise. I'll even post a pic of the faulty bearing, bent shaft, or whatever it ends up being.

I would like to add that in the future if a alternator quits or my starter fails and Honda dicks with me, I will pursue for the kill.

In this situation I would not want to be made a B, I expect to be treated fairly.

This tranny game I'm playing is in a totally different ballpark IMO.

Same Thing Happen To Me, I Let My Car To A Friend And He Missed 3rd After Revving @8500rpm...not Good!!...i Had A Noise In The Tranny. When They Opened @ The Dealer They Told Me It Was The Differencial Bearing, After Changing It And Puttin Everything Back, The Noise Was Still There. To The Point, At The End They Gave Me A New Tranny "brand New". I Was Completely Stock, Only Hid Lights, But Remember If You Do Any Modification Make Sure That You Put The Stock Parts Back When Taking It To The Dealer.
That Lesson Number 1..
Good Luck
