06-07 (2D & 4D) Civic & Civic Si Rattle or Ticking Noise

Request For Visit: 06-07 (2D & 4D) Civic & Civic Si Rattle or Ticking Noise

Background
American Honda would like to inspect certain Canadian-built 2006-2007 (2-door) Civics and Civic Si (both VINs begin with 2HG) with a complaint of a rattle or ticking noise where the left A-pillar mates with the dash or the noise is coming through the instrument panel. The noise can ONLY be heard when the vehicle is being driven.

To fully understand the cause of this occurrence, AHM would like to inspect the vehicle prior to you attempting a repair of any kind.

This was sent to us on 3/16/07.

Does anyone else hear this noise while driving? On my car it can be heard while driving down a Smooth Road/Highway. It sounded as if it was coming from the airbag cover on the steering wheel. I applied some pressure to the H emblem and the sound almost completely disappeared. My car has less than 1000 miles on it. Give me your input on this so we can help Honda tackle this problem.

that's sketch. maybe its the same a pillar rattle in my car?

it turned out that that long cord that is attached to the frame that goes up to the side curtain airbag was routed the wrong way. i dont know if the dealership did that while thye were trying to "fix" my rattle or not though.

the cord was forced over one of the clips and looked like it was gonna pop out my side curtain airbag at any moment -_-

It's a common problem on all 8th gen civics. I have those problems (although very minute) on my 07 Canadian LX sedan as well. The problem comes and goes, and predominately occurs during sub -20C.

exactly. The ticking sound starts somewhere in front of me when I got to around 70km/h @ 1700-1800rpm in cold weather (thermometer below - 8). I told the mechanic, and he said it's normal. He said it's the "engine's resonance", which I don't understand. Can somebody explain?

He was trying to sound smart; he means vibration.
