Radio Antenna
Well resently took my girlfriend's car to get tinted and i must say it looks great. 20% all around with a strip on the windsheild
but.... Now we seem to be having a problem with radio reception all of a sudden (it was fine the first 2 days we had tint) I beleive the antenna is in the top middle of the windsheild where that dot matrix is correct? Well we have a 20% strip on the front windsheild.. could that be the problem? if so is there any way to fix it? |

I made sure to purchase tint with no antenna blocking properties. Looks like you might have a metallic-based tint. I'm currently using a carbon-based tint and it looks amazing with no blocking of GPS or standard antenna. :)
I know this doesn't really help your situation, or it might.. Just trying to help |

Most of the films from them have some layer of metallized film in them. It may be non-conductive but there is a metal impregnated layer in the film. The metallized film is better than the standard dyed film...you probably paid a bit more than usual but the metallized *can* interfere with radio waves. Thus the new weakness in reception...the Civic antenna being built into the window and all.
Unfortunately...there is no good answer for your problem now except to buy an antenna booster. The other alternative is to have the current film stripped off and have ceramic film put on...ceramic does not interfere with the radio waves. Other solution...get her a birthday present and add XM radio for her. Sorry I didn't get to you sooner. |

Since the problem wasn't there for the first couple of days, I would assume that when they cut the tint, some little wire was cut or disconnected. Over the period of couple of days driving the car, it could of become more loose. Try to inspect carefully that area on the top of the glass where that little black box is. Thats the actual antenna. Good luck!
P.S. Civic antennas are weak themselves. You sure its not a radio station issue? |

Well...
seems we have perfect reception whenever the rear defroster is off. but as soon as you turn it on you get a fuzzy reception.. so i guess we wont use the defroster that much :) Quote:
