Piston-valve contact?

I was coming off of base onto the highway that connects our town to the AFB and I was talking on my phone (stupid) and I downshifted to pass from 5th to 2nd instead of 4th. I was going about 65 or so I think. Could I have possibly caused piston-valve contact. The tach was pinned at 9k, I'm not stupid so I hit the clutch immediately but it had already slowed the car some. I'm such a great driver I thought this would never happen to me. I should not have been talking on my phone and trying to shift with my left hand . I'm extremely disappointed in myself so don't flame me plz

if it only revved to 9k and ur engine didnt explode and no CEL i think you should be fine...
usually if im goin 65 and wanna pass someone hardcore i downshift to 3rd...and thats not too far from 2nd.

How does the car run? Idle? CEL? Leaking oil? Did it die when it pegged 9k?

If it runs and drives normal, I wouldn't worry. If any of the above are present, then I would be very concerned

The only way you get piston to valve contact is if your timing chain snaps allowing the two assemblies to rotate freely. Or if the gear skips a few tooths.

WRONG! The K20 will have piston to valve contact from excessive over revving.

that can cause the head grenade... that sort of contact is very common in a over rev situation and not just in k-series. ive done ot before. take off your valve cover and check you cams and rocker arm assembly. this seriouse, so get checked out.

Rev limiter doesn't work on a mis-shift....as long as it was under 10k you should be ok

The rev limiter will NOT protect against a missed shift over rev, it only helps prevent over rev when shifting at the redline..

ive had the same thing, and when i brought my car in for an oil change they noticed some dirty oil marks right underneath where the cam sensors are, the leak isnt noticable by watching it in idle but i cleaned it a few times and when i checked it there was more oil... Has anyone had to deal with this and figure out the problem....
