1st gear and Vtec

I had a problem when I was running the stock tires after they were worn. As soon as I hit vtec in first, they would break loose. I attributed this to the tires being bald. I replaced them with the same size Kumho Solus to try and keep the same tread pattern as the rear stockers. Now if I run first up and hit vtec, I get slight wheel-hop as soon as vtec kicks in. Enough to vibrate the inside of the car. I suppose I'll have to get yet another set of tires to fix this.
It's not like I have massive amounts of hp here. Has anyone else had this problem?

Not yet, but I reckon a torque damper may help out at VTEC engagement. Tell you the truth, I don't really floor my car in first because I know that my tires may break loose. I should try it more often.

have you broke the tires in? i mean you probably already know to do this but maybe you forgot. all new tires have like oil on them or something and they actually get traction like bald tires until they go through like 3 heat cycles

They have almost 500 miles on them. I made a short road trip up to Hartford last weekend...60 miles each way. I think that should be enough.

Do you have a '07 model? If so, turn off VSA...

i was having this exact same problem with my toyo proxes 4. but then i found a solution. i never realized how much tire pressure affects performance til now. when i would spin in first my tire pressure was at 35psi. i dropped it down to 32psi and then put the rear tires at 29psi. now i get no wheel hop, but i sure do get sucked backed in my seat now.

i get it sometimes too. just never really attributed it to anything. i have the summer tires still on the car and it's happened in both warm and cold weather...gonna adjust the pressure tomorrow and see if that helps...

...I'm going back to the dyno on my b-day! Mar 14th 6:00pm
