Maintenance Question
Do you guys actually follow the maintenance minder system that is recommended by Honda. I see that B12 is showing up and I have done the maintenance package before but I see no reason for spending the money for this.
Main Item B/B1 * Replace engine oil* and filter. * Rotate tires,** inspect for wear and adjust pressure * Service front and rear brakes. * Inspect parking brake adjustments. * Inspect tie rod ends, steering gear box and boots. * Inspect suspension components. * Inspect driveshaft boots. * Inspect brake hoses and lines (including ABS) * Check all fluid levels, condition of fluids and check for leaks. * Inspect exhaust system. * Inspect fuel lines and connections. Sub-Item 1 * Rotate tires,** inspect for wear and adjust pressure. Sub-Item 2 * Replace air cleaner element. * Replace dust and pollen filter. * Inspect and adjust drive belt. The only things that im not completely familiar with is the inspect and adjust drive belt. Is this really necessary? I think that out of all of this, all i plan to do is the oil change. I just put on winters so dont need that, and my air cleaner element and dust and pollen filter are fine. Brakes were done fairly recently too so i dont see the need for that either. Thanks

I have always tried to follow the maintenance schedules for all of my cars. I'd like to think of it as preventative maintenance becuase sometimes they find potential problems before they get worse. It also might show to the next person that buys the car that you took good care of it. It might only be a few hundred for the year, but I don't mind.
Anyway, I just got the B1 service myself. The tech found that my front strut mounts and bearings were worn and fully serviced the front and rear brakes (they feel much better now). The drive belt I might be concerned about because I think there is actually a TSB for it. The filters you can change yourself. I had mine done because I live in a new survey and the roads are very dusty. They also updated the ECU with the new software and changed my tranny fluid to the Amsoil MTF. The grand total came to $254 with tax. THe new mounts and bearings are covered under the warranty. |

Sure. The car drives, shifts and brakes much smoother and they found a problem that I didn't really know about. It's the only money I've had to spend on it. Sure you can do most of the stuff yourself, but if you couldn't be bothered or are not very mechanically inclined, why not pay the dealer and hopefully know exactly how your car is running.
