But... but I just GOT an oil change...

Hi,
My oil change indicator was at 20% so I decided to take it in for an oil change on Saturday. I went to my Honda dealership first but the wait for an oil change and regular maintenence was THREE HOURS. So I just went to Jiffylube.

Problem is the oil change indicator didn't change and today it dropped to 15% which caused the maintenence indicator light to go on. Weird. Does something need to be reset or something?

Thanks

You are supposed to reset the indicator after every oil change... The indicator will not know if you have fresh oil or not. It does it's equations based on fresh oil... How long it should realistically last with your type of driving. You want to hold down the select button (while the indicator screen is up) for 10 seconds. After it starts to blink. Depress and hold again for 3 seconds I believe. Should go back to 100%

I thought the oil indicator had some fancy system of weighing or analyzing the oil in your engine. This is 2007 after all - THE FUTURE.

Boy was I wrong. Thanks guys. I'll try this out on my lunch break.

There not that smart......yet.:)

Here's the procedure to reset from the manual...

Your dealer will reset the display
after completing the required
maintenance service. You will see
‘‘OIL LIFE 100 %’’ on the information
display the next time you turn the
ignition switch to the ON (II)
position.
If maintenance service is done by
someone other than your dealer,
reset the maintenance minder as
follows:

1)Turn the ignition switch to the ON
(II) position.
2)Press the SEL/RESET button
repeatedly until the engine oil life
is displayed.
3)Press the SEL/RESET button for
about 10 seconds. The engine oil
life and the maintenance item
code(s) will blink.
4) Press the SEL/RESET button for
more than 5 seconds. The
maintenance item code(s) will
disappear, and the engine oil life
will reset to “100”.

Read the owner's manual. The instructions are pages 184-185.

It is the future and the oil indicator is the grandson of the old fashion dummy light
It just didn't get a lot smarter

Yuy, I second that. Jiffy Lube is known for their shady business practices.
They seem to charge you for all sorts of things like oil filter, fuel filter, etc
then not changing any of it. There was a sting out in California and it was on one of those News TV shows. They went to 10 different Jiffy Lubes and 8 out of the 10 didn't do what they were listing they did. They charged for Transmission fluid change and never did it, they charged for the fuel filter and the had a camera that showed that they never touched the old fuel filter.
My Manager took her car to Jiffy Lube and they stripped the oil plug and when she came out all the oil leaked out. They drilled and tapped the pan and put in a larger plug but it always leaked after her visit at Jiffy lube.
I know that is one place I would never take my car.

dunno. i got good vibes at the one i went to. the customer waiting era looks onto where they work on your car, everyone used my name and was polite, one of them noticed i was low on coolant and asked if i wanted them to fill it up etc.

why would ya dump the new oil???? Thats a waste of an oil change.

you just reset the oil change info. All that is a glorified milege counter it seems otherwise it would reset itself when new oil in in the block.

Also, jffy lube or anyplace that changes oils changes the filter with it...........

So basically, the "oil life" monitor is based on your mileage, not on the actual viscosity or age of the oil? Just another ploy to remind people to get their oil changed?
