Oil Leak...... :-(

So as some of y'all are aware my car was in a hit and run accident 2 weeks ago. Today while they were doing alingment on the car they notice an oil leak from the area of the timing chain cover. So tomorrow it goes from the body shop to the garage so honda can work on that now. Mine was build number 1342 from the Ohio factory incase you want to go check your cars.

That sucks to hear, Insurance should replace the car.

How do I figure out which build number I am?

Look at you CAR ID number. The last digets are the build number. My S is 882 for the 05' model year. It may also be on your insurance card.

Dissappointed in my first Honda!

I have 1,200 miles on my new 06 Civic Coupe and have noticed oil spots on my garage floor. I looked under the car and found amber fluid droplets on the oil filter and on the engine oil pan. I can't tell where it is coming from due to the cramped engine compartment. I will take it to the dealer, hope they do not screw up my car. Also the seatbelt on the drivers side is missing stiching at the plastic sleeve as compared to the passenger side.
I love the gas mileage 38mpg, but have doubts about Honda quality. The 10 year old car that my Civic replaced never leaked any oil!

The source of my leak was a valve cover gasket. And the Dealer has no parts. My will be the first car they have fixed under the recall for the gas pedal.

The dealer doesn't even have a valve cover gasket? That is amazing to me considering even a valve adjusment will require a new gasket according to Honda.

This should help.

American Honda has identified two possible areas for engine oil leaks on the 2006 Civic. We are working closely with the manufacturing plants to resolve this issue. If you have a 2006 Civic that has an engine oil leak, below are the two most likely causes.

Front Block Oil Leaks
The majority of all 2006 Civic oil leaks in the market have been from the front 24mm sealing bolt. The oil leak path is easily mistaken for an oil pan gasket or an oil pump leak. The recommended repair procedure is below.

Remove both the sealing bolt and washer – replace with new ones.
Thoroughly clean sealer from the mating surface and the threads in the block.
Oil the entire sealing surface on the block with engine oil. (This allows washer to rotate when torqued and not distort).
Install new washer & sealing bolt.
Torque to 60 +/-5Nm.
Rear Block Oil Leaks

Most leaks from this area have been from the rear 24mm sealing bolt, but we have seen a few that were leaking from the rear main seal. The recommended repair procedure is below.

Remove both the sealing bolt and washer – replace with new ones.
Thoroughly clean sealer from the mating surface and the threads in the block.
Oil the entire sealing surface on the block with engine oil. (This allows the washer to rotate when torqued and not distort).
Install new washer & sealing bolt.
Torque to 60 +/-5Nm
Replace the rear main seal.
Please understand that this issue affects a very small amount of the overall vehicle population, and you should NOT stock up on replacement parts. Additionally, these replacement parts will have a controlled part number, which will require the respective Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) to order them.

If you require further assistance with 2006 Civic engine oil leaks, please contact Tech Line.

Edit*** I'm going to sticky this up for other with this problems

I'm hoping this isn't the same on the J-Vin cars. Luckily, the only thing wrong with my car so far is the damn rocks dinging my front bumper already!

I don't think so, my dealer said the j-vins aren't being recalled for the pedal thing and the oil leak was only at the marysville Ohio plant. The Canadian coupes aren' leaking oil either. the j-vins are pretty safe from what I've seen.

Don't drive so close to the guy in front of you and this wouldn't be a problem!

I had the same issue with my Tib.

That's the thing. I leave a good distance between other cars and me. I rear ended someone when I was 19 when my brakes went out. I'm paranoid about following closely. I travel the expressway every day to and from work though, so it's unavoidable to get some road damage...oh well.

06 civic coupe

Hi All, I am new here bought a 2006 civic coupe month and a ˝ ago, went for a oil change at 3k miles and my oil change guy told me my brand new Canadian made coupe is leaking oil from the rear main seal. Took it to the dealer and he said we’ll order a new rear main seal, dealer kept the car for 2 weeks, just picked up the car and according to them it was not RMS it was the block plug seal? What is a block plug seal? On the service paperwork it says removed trans after cleaning and installing block plug seal then reinstalled transmission???

anyone else ran into this?

Not sure what that is, but you seem to have bad luck I have yet to hear of a RMS go out on a civic, 7th or 8th gen or an Accord.

And yeah, I don't think they are as good of quality as they used to be.

I have just noticed that my Civic is also leaking oil!

I will be calling my dealer this morning to schedule my service appointment.

Did everyone get their oil leak fixed by the dealer? Was it a long involved process or did the dealer fix it in a couple of hours?

They removed civic's transmission for that, there is a technical bulletin out now to all Honda dealerships.
After the repair I took my civic coupe to my brother's shop, asked his mechanic to lift up the car and double check Honda’s work. every thing checked out ok .... I don't trust honda, their cars or their dealerships.
