I didn't notice any difference before and after...

I can always turn A/C off while in Defrost mode... I hear the difference when on and off...

I did this steps serveral times, and still didn't notice the differece..

"factory setting" does not exist on my car?

Maybe there's a difference between 06' and 07'. My 06' Si had this annoying factory setting. BUT NOT ANY MORE

Has anyone figured out how to return to the default setting of AC on when in defrost mode? I have been reading about this for a while both here and on other forums but no one seems to know how to revert back to the factory setting should the need arise.

Edit:

I found instructions in a Honda Element forum explaining how to return to the factory setting. I have modified them to apply to the Civic. I have also tested them and it works!

To deactivate automatic a/c feature:

1. Select dash vent button
2. Turn fan knob to off position.
3. Turn temperature knob all the way to coldest setting
4. Turn vehicle off.
5. Hold down both air re-circulation button and a/c button while starting the vehicle.
6. Continue holding for 7 seconds until air re-circulation button stops flashing.
7. Now when you select defrost mode the a/c compressor will turn on but so will the a/c light on the a/c button. You can now press the a/c button and turn the compressor on or off. Even when you turn the car off the setting will be stored.

To reactivate automatic a/c feature:

1. (Select defrost mode button)
2. Turn fan knob to off position.
3. Turn temperature knob all the way to the coldest setting.
4. Turn vehicle off.
5. Hold down both air re-circulation button and a/c button while starting the vehicle.
6. Continue holding for 7 seconds until air re-circulation button stops flashing.
7. After this, the a/c light will turn to green and it's back to factory setting!

works great!

Can anyone tell me how to return to factory setting??? I hate this mod... >_< plz..
Mine is the opposite...

Factory setting: when press front defrost, the AC light doesn't come on, and AC is on.

I will try the procedure dentrecords suggested. I don't use deforst all that much, but sometimes when my passenger is changing songs on my radio she accidentally hits defrost and I don't notice it until I try and speed up that my A/C is on lol

The only thing I hate about this mod is that:

when you press defrost, the AC goes on automatically (AC light goes on as well), then when you press "face", the AC doesn't go off automatically... so you will be getting cold air.

Factory mod: though AC goes on automatically when u press defrost, it goes off automatically when u press "face".

Am I correct?

Will this procedure also solve the air continuously coming through my vents even when I have the A/C and fan speed completely off?

Example: Even if I have both set to off a small amount of air STILL comes through not a ton but still enough to annoy me greatly me. If I set the temperature control all the way to red the air will turn hot also without the A/C being on or Fan speed set to even 1.

Will this help?

I don't think I've seen a car where this doesn't happen. Hey, you need air to breathe, right?

Just turn the recirculation button on. This will close off the flap that allows fresh air in. With this turned on air will not be present at your vents. Do you ever notice that when you drive with everything off you feel more air as opposed when your car's not moving. The recirculation button is there for extremely cold weather when you need to warm up the interior quickly. This procedure has nothing to do with what annoys you.

WTF!!! How did you EVER figure this out? If you did it yourself you are one sharp cookie! Glad you are American and not working for Al Queasadea.

So I'm guessing this does not affect the a/c in the summer right? Because Memphis gets hot as hell.

1. Turn car on.
2. Turn temperature knob all the way cold and turn the fan knob to off.
3. Put vent location to "face"
4. Turn car off
5. Hold down the Recirculation Button and the A/C Button.
6. Hold down both buttons and turn the key all the way to the on position.
7. Keep both buttons depressed until one of the lights blink a few times, then you get a solid green light once the change has been made. Then let go.
8. See if it works by putting the fan on in Defrost. You should see the A/C light turn on and you should be able to turn it off.
I did this but once I let go of the button the light went away. I put on the defrost but the a/c light wont go on or off.

I have done the mod and it works - many thanks to all who contributed. However, is there any way to make it so the A/C NEVER TURNS ON unless I press the A/C button myself? I'm in Indiana (0% - 100% humidity) and am very in-tune to when I do and don't need to condition the incoming air. I don't like the A/C flipping itself back on when I go between various air deflection modes...

No, I don't believe you can do that.

Sorry! But if you've done the mod its pretty easy to be sure its off when you press the button and turn the light off.

Nope.

You have to turn it off manually each time.

I found this thread a few months ago and changed the setting. It's most useful for me in transition weather (spring, autumn) when I need just a bit of
'maintenance' defrost all around on wet days, but I don't want to be frozen out of the car and/or have to constantly adjust the temperature control.

Very handy. I don't know of any other vehicle that allows this kind of control. Too bad...

You can change the locks so they all unlock but only if you have a '07 or newer. It actually shows you how to do this right in the manual

Look in the manual. It tells you how to program your locks so they all open when you put it in park.
