That's good to know. But up here in Canada (-30 celcius EASILY) I still chose to do the reprogram. If it takes a long time to defrost I'll simply press the A/C button.

Thanks bro! I did this simple mod too and only use my a/c when defrosting when it is really humid. I did this in my old civic too. But, I was tricked in my new civic because the a/c light did not come on when the defrost was on, so I didn't know it was on! I felt cool air and was like what the f! Now, it is in the option mode with a/c off. Thanks again man.

Thanks for posting how to do this. I made the change a couple of days ago, much better.

The A/C is NOT always running like a lot of ppl said... the FAN is.. HUGE difference

unless of course you're talking about the defroster

Actually, the A/C is running. Try the procedure, you'll hear a difference.

Even without doing the procedure you can hear the AC cut in and out.

I'd bet if you looked under the hood with the defrost running you could see the compressor kick in and out.

so much anger..... did you read what this post was about? the AC doesn't stay on all the time, but when you click the defroster AC goes on unless you perform the trick to block it.

1. Turn car on.

3. Put vent location to "face"
4. Turn car off
5. Hold down the Recirculation Button and the A/C Button.
6. Hold down both buttons and turn the key all the way to the on position.
7. Keep both buttons depressed until one of the lights blink a few times, then you get a solid green light once the change has been made. Then let go.
8. See if it works by putting the fan on in Defrost. You should see the A/C light turn on and you should be able to turn it off.
I just tried this on my car yesterday and it works perfectly. How come this is not a sticky. It's some very good info.

I have been dying to know how to do this. As you know in Canada, sometimes you want to MELT, not de-humidify.

Where did you get these steps?
Does it make it so the AC only turns on when you push the button, because that is what I want.

Thanks,
Scott

Yes.

We find with the high humidity here in Vancouver, we need the AC on most of the time otherwise the windows start to fog. Probably due to how tight the door & window seals are on this car.

You can do this, read your owners manual.

This is awsome at first I thought that it was a joke. You know like do a 25 step stupid meaningless task only to find out that you are a fool for going through all the steps and you didn't gain 50hp with the alernative ecu setting. (just an example, no I have never done that). Anyway I use the defroster every morning and didn't even think about the fact that this could be why my mpg has gone down 3 to 4 mpg now that it's colder (I just leave it there). +1 rep, not that you need it though!

btw.. what will happen if you press the a/c button.. is it just to show that the light is on?? since the a/c is activated automaticly?
