On/Off Passenger Air Bag

I have an 07 EX and noticed that my passenger air bag on/off switch isn't working properly.
The "off" sign doesn't say off when there is no one on the seat. It only says off when I put my backpack on the seat. I tried pushing hard on the seat with my hand when it was on and then it switched to off. It works fine when someone sits on it.
Has anyone had this problem?
I'm afraid to take it into the dealer. I've heard that they tend to make it worse?
ahh what to do

it only says off when ther are little children in the seat. i.e. what you see with your back pack. When empty the off light is not on

Correct, the only time they want the air bag to turn off is when there are small childeren in the seat. Otherwise it doesn't really matter if the airbag is on or off if no one is in the seat. I think the weight that sets it off is from 5lbs to 40lbs. Just as a side note though, its always safer to put small kids in the back seats.

mine says off whether my gf is on the seat or not.. wtf... ddnt notice that till now =\

also i heard it doesnt detect by weight .. there are IR sensors built in the car that senses if theres a passenger of reasonable size (not too small)
