R18 K&N SRI CEL
Alright, here is the deal. I bought a K&N SRI for my R18, from K&N. I installed it and I'm getting a CEL. An insider at Honda agreed to help me...behind Honda's back...if I get the CEL code. I took the car to 2 places to get the code, Advance Auto Parts and Auto Zone. Neither one of their scanners will read the car. One came up with "Link Error" and the other got "Operator Error". Does anyone have any ideas on what is the problem? I was thinking it could be the MAF sensor. The guy at Advance said to put back my stock intake and take it to Honda to let the get a code, because, according to him, the CEL will stay on...is this true? I've done the 60-90 miles test, and I've done the battery disconnect once (I'm trying again tonight). If anyone has any ideas or suggestions please let me know.
I will keep you guys updated. |

Might try and see if the installation was perfect. Make sure things are fitting tight and the clamps are fully twisted in.
If you find someone with a Scangauge II that will read and reset OBII error codes. |

If an insider at Honda agreed to help you, then he can use the scan tool to pull up the code, no?
My best advice is to take out the SRI, all of it and work back from square one. It's an SRI, so it should take 1 hour tops. |

The girl at Honda can use their tools because it has to be written up for the tools to be used.
And with the SRI reinstall, I'm gonna try that this weekend. I'm not getting any side effects from the CEL, just the light. The intake sounds and performs amazingly well. |

I installed the sensor on the tube. It is called the MAF sensor.
I did unplug the batter during the install. Last night I unplugged the battery for 30 minutes. Went and reconnected it. Then started the car. Let it run for a couple minutes, and then turned the car off. As of right now, that is working with no CEL. I will go this morning and see if it turns back on. |

CEL back on, stayed off until I pressed the gas. I'm strongly leaning toward the MAF tripping because as soon as I touched the gas, the intake sucks in all that air, freaking out the sensor.

How can you do a test on the SRI's? I thought about doing the soapy water test...but that wouldn't work because it would suck in the water instead of blowing bubbles. |

I brought mine to my mechanic, he said my engine was running really lean, I have an CAI and Exhaust, does anyone think it has to do with the backpressure and the oxy sensor's not having enough pressure to read? I have a MT so if I throw it in neutral and the Air Conditioning is on it almost always die's on top of that, im going post this somewhere else, also since my CEL is on and I cant pass inspection with a check engine light on... my mechanic plugged it onto an obd and he said it was running lean, the other place's that had obd said it didnt give any code's... this is crap, i love my CAI and I dont want to take it out but it looks like i may have to.

This is incredibly common when someone upgrades to a "high flow" air filter. I worked at a service station for a while and the head mechanic there, a fellow named Jim, absolutely hated K&N filters and the like. To this day we can't exactly explain why it occurs, but do know that we serviced at least one car a week that had a CEL that was solved by going back to an OEM filter.
