Weird sound when turning on a cold day

I'm having an issue before my car is warm during a COLD COLD COLD day.. I mean like -15c cold.. right after I get outta my parking spot. .when I'm making a right or left turn.. theres this kinda like weird grinding / banging sound.. its more of a grind.. anyone know whats the problem? once the car is warmer like.. maybe driven for 30 seconds.. it goes away..

ideas anyone? help?

When my car is cold and I turn the steering wheel I get a low clunk or thud.

Might be the same thing, dealer was unable to find anything on more than 1 occasion.

if your using a garage it might help some, leaving a car out at those temps... ouch. everything will just dry up i would imagine, parts and such.

Just a suggestion, but might the noise be snow build up on the inside of the wheel wells. When you turn the tire hits the snow (ice) until it breaks off.

I know this has happened a few times to me. It's surprising how much snow and ice gets caught in there. I wish they'd make the inside of the mud guards flat so the snow doesn't have much to adhere to.

I have kinda the same problem. Its pretty cold here in NY lately, my Si makes knocking sounds in the morning (like I need oil knocking). But then after the car warms up...it's fine..I dont hear anything. I hope this is normal.

I've been getting a kind of creaking sound on cold days that sounds like it's from the steering not really a clunk. It does it most before the car is warmed up but will do it even after an hour of driving.

Did you make sure there was no ice sludge stuck behind your front tires to the mud guards?

Theres no snow buildup around the splash guards.. but I think while driving the snow must hv froze over certain parts of the wheel or somethin so before I get it going for like 30 seconds to a minute it'll make that clunking...grinding.. nasty sound at the front of the car when I accelerate and turn...

I do park in the garage but it seems like anything below -10ºC it will happen.. for anybody who is not getting this yet.. theres a good chance it'll happen later.. cuz mine didn't do it last year either.. lol..

thanks for all the replies.. atleast now I know its normal and its not cause I drove my car to the ground =P

Sounds like the CV joints. I've got the same issue and it's being checked out by the dealer tomorrow. Only happens in cold weather... happened on my last Si too.. (1990)

ive got the same thing. if its normal its normal; i don't care then. as long as nothing is being damaged then fine. it goes away when the car is warmed up.

Yeah, my 07 Coupe has started to make the clicking sounds when I turn too. I took it into my dealer today, and one of the mechanics took it for a little test drive around their parking lot. The clicking sound was audible when he turned the steering wheel all the way to the right or left, and he said that it is not a serious issue, however, there may be a problem with the car's suspension. He reassured me that nothing "bad" will happen if I continue driving, but said that I should have it checked out at some point before my warranty expires (which isn't a concern because I still have over 2 years worth). I'm thinking that I may wait it out and see if it goes away, and if the cold weather has something to do with it (T.O. CAN). If not, I will just have to leave it at the dealer for a day and see if they shuttle me to work in the morning.
