Does one of those creaks include a clicking sound that seems to come from your steering column when you turn out of your driveway for example? It's not very loud in my case -- I have to turn off the fan and radio to hear it well. Maybe I'm being too sensitive to the sounds that my car makes, and maybe it's been doing that all along and I always had my fan or radio on and didn't notice it before. Anyways, I'm going to investigate it over the next couple of days and see what I can figure out.

Update: The clicking sound I mentioned in my previous posts went away! :)
There are two variables that I suspect may have had something to do with this positive development: 1) I checked the tire pressure of all tires and it was too high (34-35ish psi, which I think was caused by inflating them on a very cold day a few weeks ago), so I lowered them all to 32 (the recommended psi). I was told that uneven/high tire psi may affect the suspension in some way, and this problem may have manifested in the form of this annoying clicking sound when I turned the steering wheel. 2) I went through the car wash prior to the sound going away, and it's possible that the jets of water dislodged something that was causing the problem (it's winter time and the roads get pretty messy up here in Canad). Whatever the reason, the problem went away and I am relieved that I won't need to visit the dealership to get it fixed. Just thought I'd share the good news. :) |

After reading through all the above posts, none of that is exactly 'normal'. If you let the car warm up like you should, none of those things will happen, unless there's a problem. When you're car JUST starts and after a minute or two you drive it, it's probably still not warm enough. If you're in a rush/late/etc. just try to wait until a few dots on the temperature gauge come up, that way it's warmer, then you can drive

Thanks for the links, HondaFREAK -- very helpful.
I am going to keep my ears open for the next few weeks and "see" what develops. After reporting that the sound went away in one of my previous posts -- which it did for a while -- I noticed the dreaded "frog sound" again today, so I may have to do something about it after all . At least now I have another suspect that I can run by the Honda Tech next time I visit the dealership ("SRS Cable Reel"). That said, I only have about 7,000 km on the odo (approx. 4,500 miles) so I can afford to wait and investigate the problem a little further without worrying about the warranty expiring. Cheers! I wish it were that simple
. I always let my car warm up before driving, and the problem can be replicated in various temperature conditions, including when the temperature gauge displays "normal operating temperature". However, I haven't ruled it out as the cause just yet, and I'm waiting for a few warmer days to see if things improve. Quote:

my front suspension makes creaking sounds when driving slow, especially over uneven ground and bumps. hell it just did it just now when i got home. the car was fully warm and all. it may be the cold weather, its really hard to say. i'll probably go for an esso car wash on the weekend since the car hasnt really been washed since i dunno, september. we're supposed to be getting some decent weather on monday. will just have to wait and see.

I left my baby at the dealership today (they shuttled me to and from work), and they replaced the right front shock assembly & damper, as well as both "rear upper arms" as per a TSB "product update". They also aligned all four wheels afterwards. This service was all covered under warranty.
The clicking sound has mostly gone away as a result of the shock replacement -- I think the left shock may eventually have to be replaced too, but apparently its condition wasn't bad enough to warrant replacing this time around (it still creaks a little turning left, but not nearly as much as turning right before). Although they were a little tardy picking me up from work, I'm still pretty satisfied with the service, and I'm sure they will be equally helpful if/when I report problems with the other shock. Thanks Roadsport Honda (Scarborough, Canada)! |
