steering wheel not straight to drive straight

When i drive in a straight line, my steering wheel has to be... lets say 1 degree to the left (dont know exact measurement). If make my steering wheel perfectly straight, the car turns slightly right. Is this normal for our civics?

I know my friend's dodge truck does this also.

Alot of the time when you get a alighnment from someone besides the dealer they will set your steering wheel of to the left just a tiny bit so that when you are drivng on city roads (most in my area have a small slope for run off) the steering wheel will be straight. Just some food for thought.

Roads are built with a downward slope or incline to allow water to runoff from the center to the outer shoulder or curb area. Make sense? Most good roads anyway.

As long as your car isn't pulling to one side or the other, the steering wheel being *slightly*off center is no concern. An alignment check normally runs about $40, if it needs aligned, $40 on top of that = $80.

nope its not pulling to one side. It goes perfectly straight... its just that the steering wheel has to be slightly left in order for the car to go straight

I don't think you have a problem, but you can calm your fears for $40.

When they do an alignment they straighten the steering wheel. So if the roads are mostly sloped for runoff then they set the steering wheel a little off to the right, so that when you are on a sloaped road the wheel is straight.

It should be that your steering wheel iss just off a little. They will straighten it when they aligne it even though it doesnt sound like you need an alingment. If you do have someone do it make sure to tell them to straigten the wheel out regardless if they have to change any of the alignment angles.

i don't think its an alignment issue...

i have the same problem b4 and i mentioned a possible alignment problem to the service tech. they worked on it and found out alignment is ok.

turns out the tie rod ends are loose.

Your dealer may swap the left tire for the right tire to see if it's a defective tire as well. So if it pulls to the left after they do that, then the tire(s) are defective. In some cases, switching the tires for another few hundred miles will correct the pulling as the tire wears.

More food for thought. Good luck.

He stated that the car doesn't pull to either direction...
