Just because GM offers a "100,000 mile warranty" on some of its vehicles, doesn't mean that the vehicle is going to last that long, nor will the dealer provide service under warranty for it.

It is at their discretion.

But on an administrative note, I highly suggest you alter your attitude before something more serious happens.

If you want to give input, by all means, do so. But before you unabashedly start ramming on these cars, build yourself a reputation first, because you're not helping your cause by acting like this.

I have heard these words from a lot of different people such as the dealership, my parents, grandparents, some friends. But a month after I bought my car I found that Honda did not live up to this.

Many people have been experiencing the notchyness or grinding of gears in the civic Si's 2002 up. When I brought my car into the dealer I had to hear that I abused the car. This happened at around 800 miles. It took them two weeks to rebuild my transmission. This was one month after I bought this car brand new. Tell me how Honda has lived up to its reputation of making the most reliable cars out there when I have to bring my car back after driving it less than 800 miles. Don't tell me I abused the clutch or that notchyness is normal because its not. When I visited a site called ephatch.com and talked to fellow Si owners I realized I was not the only one having these transmission problems.

All I ask is that Honda will correct this problem and give some kind of recall, something to fix this because my dealer says that if I experience problems with the clutch again which I am, I will have to pay for repairs. Honda has disappointed me with this and has made me regret buying an Si because of these problem. Honda chooses to ignore us and not look at the facts.

Sincerely,

i cant vouch for the past models you mentioned, but i have yet to run into a tranny problem for my civic now, this 3rd gear problem hasnt arisen for me yet. nor has it in my past honda cars, had 1990 integra gs, car never gave me problems till we sold it earlier last year had an oil pan leak about 1.6kk miles on it original clutch, only things i had to do was wash it, change the oil, fill it up at the station, and occasionally take it to its emissions test.

(side note: i never race my car the integra, i just showed it proper care. my dad said this to me ahile back, take of the car and it will take care of you.)

sorry to hear youve been having problems with the particular honda car, hope things turn on the up and up

Nevermind with this thread I was just trying to see if some of the issues that were a problem in the 06 are still a problem with the 07.

There are still various rattles in the interior on some cars.
There is still the issue on some cars with the lack of an engaging third gear (not really that big of a deal)
The cloth still wears faster than it should on a brand new car
The paint still sucks.

Other than that, the car kicks ass :).

Yeah, there are some squeeks and rattles (especially when cold), some paint issues (beware TW IMHO). Other than that, I love my car. It's sporty (sporty vs. sports car), handles great, looks beautiful (do you look at it multiple times after parking?)

To the troller, no car is perfect, no person is perfect. With the understanding that most people on this board are compassionate and dare I say "professional". The apparent lack of respect you have for the other members of the board is uncalled for. You can post informative stories and solicit information without being a less than savory person. I may not have 1,000s of posts on 8th Civic, but I have been a member on other forums before and 8th Civic by far is the best when it comes to being above board (no pun intended). My suggestion, re-think your approach and apologize. Start from scratch again and you will find people here are very forgiving and understanding.

you think hondas have notchy transmissions!? you should drive an SRT-4. now THATS a notchy trans. Now i feel the same occasion notch while i shift, usually into 3rd from 2nd but it is in NO WAY a serious problem with the car. my car grinds 2nd as well, but only when i take off hard in first gear and only if i try to slam second. In short, there is no problem with this car that would make me reconsider the 20k i dropped to get it. if i had to change one thing, i would have gottn a different color. and maybe the bodykit.

Warranty can be denied by any dealership at their own disgretion (sp?). Just goto another one and you will see that not all dealerships void warranties. just because one dealership won't honor your warranty doesn't mean they all won't. These are great cars regardless of minor quirks and dealerships that don't live up to Honda's reputation. remember that dealerships are PRIVATE enterprises owned by private people that will run their dealership how they see fit. Honda America can't possibly keep tabs on the thousands of dealerships from coast to coast so if you have a problem with a particular dealership, you have to bring it to the attention of Honda America if you want anything done about it.

The only change in 07 was the break abs module (to allow for traction control) and vsa (which simply cuts the throttle when it detects slippage). Everything else is the same, unless you count the wheel color. So having said that, you cannot expect anything to have gotten better of worse.

Honda dealers, on average (not in your particular experience) suck. Honda caters to lower income folks, and treat them accordingly. If you think your service is awesome, try going to lexus, or acura, they are AWESOME there.

Having said that, the car is rather decent, it does not have the same shifting issues as the ep3 or dcr (02-05 si or rsx) because the synchros are different in the fg2 (look up the part numbers if you doubt me). The si is not the best car, in fact, I dare saw the gti is a better car, however THE SI IS THE MOST BANG FOR THE BUCK ON THE MARKET TODAY. The GTI does not have an lsd, not even as an option. The civic is way cheaper, especially if you consider navi in both models. The si is fun to drive (coming from a former ep3 owner with a k20a2, lsd and supercharger... I actually like the stock k20z3 better!), and at the end of the day, yes honda has a winner. It is not a lexus (i.e. it does have occassional creaks and rattles) but what the **** do you expect, you are paying well under $30k for it.

That is not fair. The ep3 (last gen si) had very common:
  • Transmission problems (will not shift to 3rd or 2nd)
  • Suspension problems (creeky rack)
  • Rattle issues
  • Problems getting warranty honored (literally, SRI blamed for steering rack problems)

Honda's reputation, is not entirely clean, althogh we all say it is when we argue against h8rs. The the GTI's credit: hid option, classy interior, headroom, car of the year (granted one year after the civic)

civic si can't be car of the year two years in a row. that just wouldn't be fair. i'd still pick an fg2 over the GTI any day of the week. Im never too crazy about the new model lineups that car manufacturers offer. for me its all about the '90s as far as awesome sports cars are concerned. The FG2 is one of the few new model line-ups i like.
